Technology Standards:
The student recognizes and uses letter keys and other basic keys (shift, caps lock, backspace, space bar, enter, etc.) on a keyboard.   T.ELAKW1.10

Assessment Guidelines/Tips:

  1. The students MUST insert an image and enter text.
  2. This assessment can be done using any software that allows students to use a keyboard to enter text (PowerPoint, Word, Kid Pix, Kid Works etc).
  3. Students can receive assistance finding a picture (typing in a keyword to search) but they should choose and insert the picture independently.
  4. Students can practice word processing skills by typing first name/last name, vocabulary words, simple sentences etc.

Sample Student Tasks for Assessment
Living and Non-Living Sentences- Students find a pictures of living and non-living things and type two simple sentences; created in Kid Pix

Letter Sounds and Recognition- The first page in this file is an example of a completed project. The second page is the template for the students to use.

A House is a House for Me class book- Each student creates one page of this class book. The slides are set up using the title only layout and the sentences are typed in the title text box.

Learn the Keys- drag the keys to the correct location on the keyboard

Literacy Center click the Keyboard icon; type the letters and numbers you see on the screen. For more practice click the Words icon and go to Level 2. Touch the letters on the keyboard to spell the colors and the names of the shapes (level 3).
