Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire. -- William Butler Yeats

HOPE Scholarship

Students seeking a degree from a Georgia public college, university, or technical school will receive the cost of tuition, book allowance (up to $100), and mandatory fees not covered by Pell or other federal grants. Students seeking a degree from a private college or university in Georgia can receive, in addition to the $1,045 Tuition Equalization Grant, a grant of $3000. In order to be eligible for the HOPE Scholarship, a student must:

  1. Graduate from a Georgia high school on or after 1993 and live in Georgia for the full year prior to graduation.
  2. Maintain a minimum numeric average of 80 in the core courses of a college prep curriculum, or maintain a minimum numeric average of 85 in the core courses of a career/technology curriculum.
  3. Attend a Georgia public college, university, or technical school offering a degree program.

Hope Grant

Students seeking a diploma or certificate at a Georgia public technical institute or college will have the cost of tuition, book allowance (up to $100), and mandatory fees that are not covered by Pell or other federal grants. Students must earn a high school diploma or GED and live in Georgia for one year. A student can be any age and can have a high school diploma from any state. Also, there are no limitations on the number of diplomas or certificates a student can earn, and there is no GPA requirement. Students must remain in good standing with the technical college in order to keep the Hope Grant. In other words, there is HOPE for every student who graduates from South Cobb High School with a high school diploma.

Please note: in order to receive HOPE funds, a student cannot have a felony drug conviction within the past year, and young men must register with Selective Services: www.sss.gov
