As part of Wheeler's School Improvement Plan (SIP)
the students are required to write an essay on
three specified days of the semester. These
essays are graded by the classroom teachers using
the following standardized rubric.

Governor's Honors Program
The prestigious Governor's Honors Program (GHP)
is available to intellectually gifted and talented
sophomores and juniors. Students go through
an intensive interview process at the school,
county, and state levels. Fewer than 800
students from across Georgia become GHP "winner";
these students are rewarded with an all-expense-paid
six week study program under the auspices of the
State Department of Education, held on the campus
of Valdosta State University. Wheeler finalists
who have attended the program enthusiastically
maintain that it is an incredible experience,
both intellectually and socially.

High School Graduation
Tests for Juniors
Participation and success on these tests are extremely
important. Please mark your calendars and help
your students prepare.
Study guides are available on the Georgia Department
of Education Website: www.doe.k12.ga.us - Click
on Curriculum, then Testing, then Georgia High
School Graduation Tests; then on the study guide
for the particular subject test.
Students must pass the Writing Test (taken in
September) as well as these four tests to graduate
from a Georgia high school.

Math, Information Skills, Workforce Skills, and

PICASSO
PICASSO is a portal
that provides differentiated information to CCSD
staff, parents, and students. It is a resource
that provides teachers access to the standards
that they are to teach as well as access to multiple
resources and information on the process of teaching.
Parents and students are provided access to learning
resources, announcements related to learning,
and curriculum standards. The portal is a living
document that is updated frequently throughout
the school year. Check it often!
