Prudential
Spirit of Community Awards – The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards were created by the
National Association of Secondary School Principals and Prudential
Financial in 1995 to honor both middle level and high school
students for outstanding acts of community service. This unique
program provides an ideal opportunity for our school to celebrate
the spirit of volunteerism throughout our student body, and to
recognize those students who have distinguished themselves through
volunteer work. If you have taken part in community service
activities over the past year, fill out an online application at
www.prudential.com/spirit or at
www.principals/org/prudential
(access key: spirit). Once you have completed the online
application, it must be printed out, signed, and submitted to Ms.
Beck in the FC Office by October 15, 2008.
Education
Matters Scholarship – One $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to the student who best
responds to a specific online topic (250 words or less). Eligible
students must be at least 13 years of age or older, legal residents
of the Unites States, and must have completed a scholarship search
profile online at
www.scholarshipexpert.com.

Coca-Cola
Scholars Foundation – Since the program’s inception in 1986, the Coca-Cola Scholars
Foundation has awarded more than 4,000 exceptional high school
students $35 million in scholarships to attend college. Scholars
are selected based upon academic achievement, their capacity to
lead, and their hours of dedicated community service. Becoming a
Coca-Cola Scholar means a lifetime commitment to service and giving
back to one’s community. High school seniors are eligible to apply
for $3 million in college scholarships: 250 awards are presented
annually with 50 scholarships for $20,000 and 200 scholarships for
$10,000. Apply online at

Shorter
College
– Shorter College will waive the $25 application fee for students
that complete the application (paper copy or online – your choice)
for admission by October 31, 2008. To apply online, visit

The
Ron Brown Scholar Program – is pleased to announce its annual scholarship program. Awards
will be given to African-American high school seniors who will make
significant contributions to society. Applicants must excel
academically, exhibit exceptional leadership potential, participate
in community service activities and demonstrate financial need.
Students who apply by November 1, 2008 are considered for the Ron
Brown Scholar Program and will have their application
information forwarded to a select and limited number of additional
scholarship providers. (You are still responsible for applying to
all scholarship programs for which you are interested).

considered for both opportunities.)
CollegeWeekLive.com Scholarship – One $3,500 scholarship will be awarded to the student who best
responds to a specific essay topic. This award is open to all
international and U.S. high school students in grades 9-12. In
order to be eligible, students must log-in and participate in the
free CollegeWeekLive.com virtual college fair that will be held
online November 12-13, 2008. Essay topic and additional information
is available in the FC Scholarship Cabinet. Applications are now
being accepted online at

Naval
Helicopter Association Scholarship – The NHS Scholarship Fund is looking for qualified
applicants for several scholarship awards. The will award four (4)
national undergraduate scholarships, ranging in value from $2,500 to
$3,000; they will also award five (5) regional undergraduate awards,
each worth $2,000. There is no restriction on eligibility – but
students with military affiliation (either prior service or a
relative who has served) are given special consideration. Apply

Nestle’
Very Best in Youth Program – This program was created to spotlight the best in youth
leadership. The program identifies teens whose efforts are making a
profound impact in lives other than their own. Nestle’ applauds the
passionate commitment to community service made by these young
people. Nestle’ helps young people who want to make a difference
realize their dreams by donating $1,000 in the name of each winner
to the charity of his/her choice. Nestle’ also awards the winner a
trip for them and their parents to Los Angles for the Nestle’ VBIY
awards ceremony. Winners are also featured in a special publication
and all entrants will receive a certificate of achievement from
Nestle’ and samples of Nestle’ products! Nominees must be between
13 and 18 years old, demonstrate good citizenship, have a strong
academic record, and show how they have made a special contribution
to their school, church, or community. Apply online at

Texas
A&M University Honors Program – The Honors Program provides attractive
opportunities for competitive academic scholarships and honors
study. Typically, over 600 applicants are offered a President’s
Endowed, Lechner, or McFadden Scholarship, which range in value from
$10,000 to more than $12,000 and cover approximately ¾ of the cost
of required tuition and fees. Texas A&M also offers one-year Merit
Plus Awards of $2,000 to all National Merit Semifinalists who enroll
in the freshman class. Texas A&M invites you to apply and be
considered for Academic Scholarships. To be considered for
scholarships, applications must be received in the Honors Program
Office by December 1, 2008 – but they strongly suggest you
apply prior to November 1, 2008. Applications are

The
Society For Automotive Engineers (SAE) – This organization offers more than 60
scholarship awards from $1,000 - $10,000 annually. Interested
students must be a senior at the date of application, intend to earn
a degree in engineering or related science, and meet individual
scholarship criteria. Starting this year – no application fees!
Applications are accepted September 1 – December 1. Visit

AXA
Achievement Scholarship
– Many students are affected by the high and rising coasts of
college tuition – so to help, the AXA Foundation offers their annual
AXA Achievement Scholarship! They will award one (1) $10,000
scholarship in each state (52 scholarships of $10,000 each!), and
then 10 scholarships worth $15,000 each will be awarded to the 10
national recipients chosen from the pool of 52 state winners.
Qualified students are those who set and reach ambitious goals,
demonstrate drive, determination, and ability to succeed in college
and who have respect for self, family, and community. For more

Gates
Millennium Scholars
– The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation presents its annual
scholarship award for undergraduate and graduate students. This
award is open to minority students who have significant financial
need and leadership capabilities. Interested students can pick-up
an application packet in the FC Office or visit

and additional information. Deadline January 12, 2009 for online
applications and POSTMARK deadline for paper applications
Cobb
County Schools Educational Foundation Academic Scholarship – Each year, the Cobb County Public
Schools Educational Foundation awards two (2) $1,000 senior
scholarships to students attending each of the 16 Cobb County High
Schools. Qualified applicants must demonstrate involvement in
extracurricular/community activities, leadership traits, and
academic success. Applications are available in the FC Scholarship
Cabinet. Please let Ms. Beck know if you are applying for this
scholarship (send an email or leave her a note).
