To help with safety, our morning carpool line will now be curbside drop-off only.

Only those parents who have a meeting, are having breakfast or are staying in the building for a little bit will be allowed to park and come in.

We ask all others to wait in the carpool line patiently.

Join Addison Elementary’s SLT (Student Lighthouse Team) with this GREAT service learning project! They are heading up a Book Drive for the Lakota Indian Reservation in Allen, South Dakota. The greatest need is for books in Kindergarten to Third Grade, although all grade level books will be accepted.   New or gently used books will be collected during the last week of March (27th -31st). Please help us fill American Horse School’s library!

In addition, if any family knows of a business or individual who would be willing to donate funds for shipping the books, please let us know!  Excess books will also be donated to a local school or charity.

Parenting in the Digital Age

As our students use technology, it is important for us to make sure they are using it safely.

At a recent Parent Munch and Mingle, we brought in Dr. Patti Agatston to discuss “Parenting in the Digital Age.”

Topics covered were Kids and Technology, Digital Citizenship, Popular Apps, Tips for communicating and monitoring your kids, and Cyberbullying.

Some tips to consider at home include:

1)    Talk about what sites are okay and what sites are off-limits

2)    Model positive behavior

3)    Review appropriate educational applications

4)    Talk about developmentally appropriate manners

5)    Find appropriate ways to monitor your child’s use in the digital world

6)    Set up agreements ahead of time

7)    Consider setting up filtering at the wireless router level

Ronald McDonald Visits Addison to Discuss Everyday Leaders

The theme of “Everyday Leader,” Ronald’s newest program, is based on the words of President John Quincy Adams:  “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”  Through music, magic and puppetry, students are encouraged to look inside themselves to find leadership qualities that they already possess and can exhibit on a daily basis.  Key points:  A leader inspires others to be their best; takes and accepts responsibility; sets a good example; listens; works with others; and takes action to achieve positive goals.

Our students were engaged throughout the program and learned how to incorporate the Leader in Me 7 Habits in life.

AMAZING ADDISON ATTENDANCE

Wow! We are so proud of our school-wide attendance kickoff! During the month of October, we began attendance incentives to increase students being at school each day! Research shows that school attendance is a direct correlation to student achievement. In addition,  attendance impacts Addison’s CCRPI (College & Career Ready Performance Index) score and we want our school to receive the highest possible rating! Parents, please encourage your children to come to school each day as long as they are healthy and schedule doctor’s appts. after 11:15AM.

During the month of February, the following classrooms received a piece of playground equipment that can be used at recess time. They received this as a result of having the highest classroom attendance in the grade level for the entire month. Here are the winners for the month of February and their attendance percentages:

Kindergarten: Ms. Walston’s class at 97.1%

First grade: Ms. Shore's class at 99.7%

Second grade: Ms. Burdett's class at 97.6%

Third grade: Ms. Phillips’s class at 97.6%

Fourth grade: Ms. Rose's class at 98.2%

Fifth grade: Ms. Rivas's class at 96.8%

RISE: Mr. Villegas’s class at 97.1%

We look forward to seeing which classes are the attendance winners for March! You can view the winning classrooms and other classroom percentages on the ATTENDANCE bulletin board located in the Addison cafeteria!

Congratulations to Mrs. Newell on receiving the 2016 Cobb Foundation Impact Grant for I-pads to provide a flipped classroom experience in the Addison Math Lab.

Georgia Parent Survey

Please note that the school climate surveys for the 2016-2017 school year are officially open, October, 2016 and will remain open through Friday, March 3, 2017. It is critical for all schools to participate in each of the surveys.

The Georgia Parent Survey is also modeled after the student survey questions. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphones or tablet.  For parents that do not have access to the Internet, school administrators should consider scheduling dates and times to allow parents to complete the Georgia Parent Survey at school.  All parents should be encouraged to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey because the data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis.  Individual data results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online.  The URL address for the Georgia Parent Survey is posted below.
