Please Support The Blackwell Foundation

The Blackwell Foundation’s mission is to provide resources that will enhance the educational opportunities and learning environment for the students at Blackwell Elementary with a focus on Science, Technology, Education, Art and Math (STEAM).

The Blackwell Foundation is a tax-exempt, non-profit charitable organization, every dollar can go directly to fund programs and instruction specifically for Blackwell students!

Through the Foundation, we can raise money for items not funded through the school budget.  In years past, the Foundation has been able to purchase or assist with the purchase of SMART Boards, SMART Board training and accessories, iPads, headphones for computers, and more.

For 2016-2017 our goal is to establish a STEAM Science Lab and STEAM Club for 4th and 5th graders. We hope to raise $5000 this year through the following efforts:

  • Monthly Chick-fil-A biscuit fundraisers
  • Turkey Bingo Night
  • Birthday Messages
  • $50 for the Foundation

The $50 for the Foundation will be the majority of our funding and will help build resources each year.  The requested donation is $50 per family but any amount will be a significant contribution to the materials and resources we can offer our students.  All donations are tax deductible and many employers will match your contributions!

  • If we reach our $5,000 goal, Ms. Shackelford will "Kiss The Pig!"

  • Any donations of $50 or more made by December 1st will be entered into a drawing for a free spring ASP class (TBD) a $300 value!  The winner will be announced at the December PTA Meeting.

In addition to making a donation and attending fundraisers, we need parents like YOU to help make the Blackwell Foundation a success!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why was the Blackwell Foundation started?
The Blackwell Foundation was established in November 2007 to further enhance the educational experiences of the children at Blackwell Elementary.  The Foundation initially focused on plans to increase technology in our classrooms with interactive white boards (SMART Boards). In recent years, we have provided funding for teacher wish-lists and other useful tools. We look forward to working with the school administration to identify future projects.

What is the difference between the Foundation and the PTA?
The Foundation is able have a very specific and focused set of objectives, such as raising money to fund technology. The PTA is a much broader organization that supports the day-to-day educational programs of the school, and has very strict rules about funding. The Blackwell Foundation works in conjunction with the PTA to meet the needs of students and teachers.

Are donations tax deductible?

The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and is part of the Cobb Schools Foundation in the Cobb County School District. All donations are tax deductible.

Does Cobb County provide funds for technology and other programs?

The answer is Yes and No. The county does provide some support for technology, science, art and foreign language starting in the eighth grade. A strong Foundation will help provide our elementary school with the funding to have technology and other education enriching programs in our classrooms sooner rather an undetermined time in the future.

How does the foundation raise money?

Volunteers! Parents, teachers, school administration, and community partners are the driving force behind our fundraising efforts. The Foundation sponsors a few events each year, in addition to direct donations from the friends and families within Blackwell. We encourage everyone to participate, especially if you feel strongly about the Foundation objectives. We also reach out to the business community and seek their support. We believe there is a positive connection between strong schools and strong communities.

How can I help?

By volunteering your time, making a donation or attending fundraisers during the year, you will help the Foundation embrace our future … Every Child, Every Chance, Every Day.  Check with your company to see if they match donations too!
