Last chance to send in your Foundation T-shirts to support the STEM Lab. We need 10 more orders to help make this possible and meet our goal. The T-shirts are on display in the hall near the office, with the long sleeve shirts modeled by our chill Polar Bear friends. Forms were sent home this week or are available on the bulletin board near the office. Thank you for your support of Blackwell and our students.

EARLY RELEASE DAYS
Both December 19 and December 20 will be Early Release Days for students.  School will be dismissed at 12:30 so please plan to be at bus stops and in car rider line early.  ASP will be open from dismissal to 6:00 as usual.

Winter Holidays Break
Students will be dismissed at 12:30 on Wednesday, December 20 and will return to school on Thursday, January 4, 2018.  Enjoy your winter holidays!!


IMPORTANT NEWS FOR STUDENTS ON TRANSFER
Sibling Transfers - Parents/guardians of a student who has a sibling already enrolled in a District school through an approved transfer may apply for a younger sibling to attend the same school in accordance with District Administrative Rule JBCD-R. This provision attempts to address siblings enrolled in different schools at the same time due to an approved transfer. A sibling is defined as a brother, sister, step-brother, or step-sister living in the same household and who otherwise meets the requirements for enrollment.  The application window for the 2018-2019 school year will be open from January 4, 2018 through January 31, 2018. box tops
Please collect, cut out, and turn in Box Tops (in a ziploc with child's name and grade level) to Mrs. Spence in the gym.  There is a grade level competition to see which one turns in the most Box Tops.  Also, any student who turns in 100 or more Box Tops throughout the year will be invited to a breakfast at the end of the year.  Box Top money is used to purchase new PE equipment.  Thank you for your help!!

IT'S TIME TO PLAN AHEAD!

mark your calendarCobb County School District will have several EARLY RELEASE DAYS in 2017-18.  Please note the following dates on which students will be released at 12:30 p.m.  You will need to be in the car rider line or at bus stops approximately 2 hours earlier than usual.  ASP will be open as usual until 6:00.   The dates left for this year are:   December 19-20, March 14, May 22-23.

Registration for 2017-18 School Year

Monday-Friday 8:30-11:30 a.m. only! New students will begin classes the following day after registration is complete.

There are FIVE (5) main documents required of ALL students prior to being enrolled in the District. To help ensure that the enrollment process for your child goes as smoothly as possible, please refer to the following items:

1. CERTIFICATE OF IMMUNIZATION: as required by Georgia Law 20-2-771:

  • Georgia Form 3231

2. CERTIFICATE OF VISION, HEARING, DENTAL, AND NUTRITIONAL SCREENING: as required by Georgia Law 20-2-770 (Georgia Form 3300)

3. PROOF OF BIRTH DATE: for students enrolling in kindergarten (the age of five on or before Sept. 1) or first grade (the age of six on or before Sept 1),

4. PROOF OF RESIDENCY: 

Any Two items from the list below are required by the person(s) enrolling a child in the District.

  1. home ownership title
  2. lease or rental agreement
  3. current utility monthly statement

5. SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER: According to Georgia Law 20-2-150d; An official copy of the student’s Social Security card/number is required for enrollment.

OTHER DOCUMENTS NEEDED FOR ENROLLMENT

6. A valid transcript and a withdrawal form from the student’s previous school is essential for appropriate academic placement.

7. For those students enrolling in the Special Education Program: the parent/guardian may provide a copy of the student’s latest IEP.

8. Custodial Documents: The District may request proof of custody in situations involving multiple adults claiming control of the same student.

Additional Information:

The School May Also:

  1. request proof of custody or custody documentation; or
  2. suggest that the adult with whom the student lives obtain legal guardianship.
  3. other information the school deems necessary for proper placement.
  4. request proof of age and name verification; and

Provide the names and phone numbers of persons who may pick up your child if you cannot be reached, and the name and phone number of your child's doctor.

Left to Right:  Mrs. Stephanie Rush (Classified Employee of the Year) and Mrs. Liz Chandler (Teacher of the Year).  Voted on by their colleagues, Mrs. Chandler and Mrs. Rush represent the very best of the Blackwell staff.  They both are passionate about teaching children, work well with other staff members, and go above and beyond to provide a great learning experience for students.  We are proud of both of you!


Reminders:

- The school building opens at 7:20 a.m. Please do not drop students off before 7:20 a.m.
- School starts at 7:50 AM
- Breakfast will be served until 7:45 AM
- Student check-out is not permitted after 1:45 PM
- All transportation changes must be in the form of a hand written note with a signature and a date. We cannot accept changes that are sent via email, fax, text, or phone.


Cobb County School District is now offering Office 365 to students. For more information please visit the district’s Instructional Technology page. The student username was sent to parents in an email from the district. It is similar to an email address. The student password for Office 365 is their student number.
