SPLOST UPDATE:
The good news story of SPLOST continues for Cobb County taxpayers. In October and November 2006, the School Board:

• Awarded RFP 25-06, Desktop and Laptop Computers, in the amount of $11,450,770 to Dell Marketing LP, the vendor with the highest evaluation score. As indicated in the SPLOST notebook, it is estimated that 30,000+ units will be purchased over the next three years under the "Refresh Obsolete Workstations" initiative. These units will be a mixture of desktop units, laptops, and laptop carts. An estimated 15,550 units are expected to be purchased during the first 12 months to replace outdated and obsolete units at least five years old and, in some cases, as old as 15 years. Other miscellaneous purchases of desktop and laptop computers and related peripheral items will be purchased on an as-needed basis by various schools and departments throughout the life of the contract. The RFP includes the option to renew the contract annually for up to four (4) additional years.

• Awarded a contract in the amount of $237,900 to NetPlanner Systems, Inc., to provide the District with a means for purchasing network data cabling and wireless Infrastructure parts and labor. NetPlanner Systems, Inc., received the highest score of 16 proposals submitted.

• Approved the final project closeouts for additions at Pebblebrook High School and Dodgen Middle School. By certifying that all accounts for labor, materials and services for the projects’ construction have been paid in full and that there are no claims of any nature outstanding, either liquidated or disputed, the District will be eligible to receive $63,636.30 for Pebblebrook and $88,572 for Dodgen in State Capitol Outlay Funds allocated for the projects.

All of these projects were part of the SPLOST II program approved in 2003. To view the agenda items for the projects, please click here.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT:
Cobb Students Score Higher than National Averages On ITBS
Third, fifth and eighth graders in Cobb continued to surpass national averages on the fall administration of the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS). The ITBS helps schools benchmark student performance against other students nationwide. Cobb third graders had a composite score average of 68th percentile, fifth grade scored in the 65th percentile and eighth graders scored in the 59th percentile. See the full press release for more information and individual school scores.

Cobb 11th Graders Continue To Top State, Metro Scores On Writing Test
Results from the writing portion of the 2006 Georgia High School Graduation Test show that Cobb students continue to top state and metro Atlanta average scores, despite a slight decline in the average score. Cobb’s scale score of 531 is two points shy of the 533 mark set in 2005, yet remains four points above the Georgia average of 527 and two points above the metro average score of 529. The percentage of Cobb students passing the test also declined one point, from 97 percent to 96 percent. The small decline in scale score and passing percentage mirrors a trend for Georgia and metro Atlanta. Visit the District Web site for individual school scores.
