STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT:

SAT Scores Highest Ever at 1047
The Board of Education is proud to announce the 2005 Cobb County School District graduating class has again lifted the ceiling on the SAT by posting an average score of 1047, the highest score in District history. The 7-point increase continues a five-year upward trend in SAT scores, widening the gap between Cobb students and their peers across the nation and in Georgia. Cobb students’ SAT scores were 19 points higher than the national average and 54 points higher than their Georgia peers. One school, Kell High School, posted an increase of 56 points. More information is available at www.cobbk12.org.
SPLOST:
The SPLOST II program approved by voters in 2003 is well under way and is bringing great improvements to Cobb County schools. Three new facilities opened on the first day of school: Barber Middle School and McCall Primary School in Acworth; and Riverside Primary School in Mableton. A fourth new school, Austell Primary School, is set to open following winter break. Several major classroom additions also are ongoing, including projects at North Cobb, Walton, Osborne and Pebblebrook high schools, and Mabry, Floyd and Dickerson middle schools. By the end of 2008, SPLOST II will add nine new schools and more than 350 new classrooms to existing Cobb County schools. Best of all, the entire program is currently $35 million under budget. This efficient management should prove helpful as the District copes with rising construction costs related to higher fuel and resource costs.
