STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT:
Mabry Named 'School of Distinction
For Technology Innovation' Scholastic and Intel have named Mabry Middle School a 'National School of Distinction for Technology Innovation.' The school will receive a $10,000 grant and the expectation of up to $250,000 in technical equipment donated to the school
Mabry's integration of technology in the classroom and beyond, including its student film festival and MabryOnline blogging system, have turned heads across the region. Congratulations to Principal Dr. Tim Tyson and his staff for this honor.
SPLOST:
The $697 million SPLOST II program approved by Cobb taxpayers in 2003 will result in improvements at every single school in the District. At any given time, dozens of major construction projects are ongoing at schools throughout the county. The school district’s construction department works with the Facility Group of Smyrna to manage and oversee the 760 school projects that will be completed under SPLOST II. Projects currently ongoing include:

Cobb Schools Give Over $75,000
In Relief To Hurricane Victims
The outpouring of goodwill from our schools toward victims of Hurricane Katrina has been immense. To date, over $75,000 in cash and countless donations of food, clothing and essential living supplies have been given to the Red Cross and other charities working in relief efforts. Over 1,100 new students have been enrolled in the District whose families have come to Cobb from the evacuated areas.
Wheeler Robotics Highlighted by NASA
The CircuitRunners Robotics Team at Wheeler High was recently highlighted on NASA's Robotics Education Project web site. Teams sponsored by NASA had the opportunity to give an overview of their recent competitions and future plans. The CircuitRunners have won the Peachtree Regional Chairman's Award for two consecutive years.

Financial Services Awards
The District’s Annual Financial Report for the 2003-04 fiscal year was given a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting and is awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association in Chicago, IL.
The District's Budget Office received the Meritorious Budget Award from the Association of School Business Officials in July, honoring the 2004-05 annual budget. This honor reflects the highest standards in school budgeting presentation.
