*** Teacher of the Year 2016 ***

TOTY2016

Rocio Gonzalez (right) was recently named Teacher of the Year 2016-17 at Cheatham Hill.  Elizabeth Pierson (left) was named runner-up.

Rocio, a Special Ed teacher, co-teaches 2nd grade with Brianne Holcomb and has served at The Hill for the past 8 years.  Initially, she earned a Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management at Florida International University but later changed course and earned a second degree in Special Education from UGA.  She worked in Pre-K and middle school prior to coming to Cheatham Hill.  She has been married 16 years to her high school sweetheart, Anthony. They have two boys, Derrick (13) and Brandon (8) who have both attended Cheatham Hill. In her spare time, she likes to work out and spend time at the soccer fields with her sons.

Runner-up Elizabeth Pierson is also a Special Ed teacher at Cheatham Hill. She co-teaches with Jeanie Chambers in 1st grade. She has taught for approximately 25 years with the majority of this time spent teaching Special Education.  Her first teaching job was at a Psychoeducational Center in LaGrange, GA. She then taught one year in Kentucky while preparing for her wedding.  They later relocated to Cobb County.  She taught at Floyd Middle, Mableton Elementary and Vaughan Elementary before coming to The Hill where she has served for the past 7 years.

She and her husband, Steve, have been married for 30 years.  He is employed by Voya.  They have twins who are grown and married and their youngest is a freshman at the University of GA.  Elizabeth says that she has the best dog in the world that she inherited from her father.

She and her husband are getting used to being empty nesters. They love to hike and have visited many of the National Parks in the US.

Congratulations to both Rocio and Elizabeth!  We are so happy that Cheatham Hill is your home and we are grateful for all you do!

Please note:

Effective September 7, 2010, students will not be permitted to return to classrooms after 2:45 pm to retrieve forgotten items such as homework, lunch boxes, book bags, etc. Teachers may leave the campus at 2:45 pm, therefore sending students to rooms without someone present is a concern for our staff and for the security of our students. Please be advised that ASP workers and custodians will no longer be able to unlock classrooms for parents or students. Until students become acclimated to this procedure, we will provide daily reminders on the afternoon announcements.
