Mission Statement

The mission of the Clay Elementary Counseling Program is to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program that addresses the academic personal/social and career needs of all Students. Our goal is to provide for every student a supportive, accepting, and encouraging atmosphere in which they can have a voice to express any concerns that may hinder their academic and social success, so that they can be productive contributors in a global society.

PHILOSOPHY

We believe that all students:

  • All Children Can Learn
  • Character Education is essential to a child's development
  • Students should be lifelong learners
  • All students have a right to a safe and supportive learning environment
  • Learning is the shared responsibility of the home, school and community
  • All students have the right to be heard and treated with dignity and respect
  • All students have the right to services that support academic, career and personal/social growth
  • All students have the right to a credentialed school counselor who is accessible, collaborates with other educators, families, and the community as an advocate for student success

And that our School Counseling Program

  • Reaches every student
  • Is developmental and preventive in nature
  • Is an integral part of the educational program for student success
  • Utilizes the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) National Standards
  • Is implemented by credentialed school counselors and is conducted in collaboration with students, other educators, families, and the community
  • Evaluates effectiveness annually and seeks improvement
  • Strives to remove barriers to learning

And that all school counselors will:

  • Collaborate with administration to design, implement and evaluate the comprehensive school counseling program that aligns to the school's mission and goals and to the district's strategic plan
  • Abide by the professional school counseling ethics as advocated by the American School Counselors Association
  • Participate in professional development activities essential to maintaining a quality school counseling program
