In order to meet the high standards for the principalship and to develop skills and knowledge required for today's school leaders, Cobb County Leadership Development designed and implemented the Principal Induction Program for new principals.  This collaborative program strives to link leadership to productive schools to enhance student achievement.

The framework is organized around the core proposition that the most critical aspect of a school leader's work is the continuous improvement of student learning.

Purposes of the Principal Induction Program:

  1. To provide a smooth and successful transition

Transitional activities with the incoming and the outgoing principals are divided into six (6) areas of responsibility:

  • Operations
  • Personnel
  • Budget and Finance
  • Safety and Security
  • Curriculum and Instruction
  • Stakeholders
  1. To maximize effectiveness as a leader of a learning community

Principals are involved in professional development opportunities:

    3.   To provide support and leadership development during the first two (2) to three (3) years of the principalship:

  • New principals are partnered with a trained mentor-coach
  • New principals communicate on a regular basis with a mentor-coach
  • New principals and mentor-coaches meet throughout the year for professional learning that is facilitated by the Leadership Development Director
