Art Club     

Art Club  is open to all students who are interested in making art for themselves
and to decorate the school.

Meets Thursday, from 8:15  to 8:45.

Awareness Club /Breakfast Buddies  

To extend help to those in need. To be a friend to a special needs student.

Buddies sign up to meet on Friday mornings with their special needs buddy.

Awareness Club meets the second Friday of every month in the Art Room 8:15 - 8:45.

            Birdie Bashers    

This badminton club meets every Friday in PE at 8:15.  Open to all  7th & 8th graders who like to play.

 

Beta Club   
What is the Beta Club?

 

The National Beta Club, with more than 7,700 clubs in the Junior and Senior Divisions and in excess of 41,000 members, is now in its 71st year.  The Junior Beta Club Division, established in 1961, now has approximately 4,800 chapters in 42 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Bahamas, Virgin Islands, Guam, and Puerto Rico.

 Objectives on this non-secret, leadership-service organization are to encourage effort, to promote character, to stimulate achievement among its members, and to encourage students to continue their education after high school graduation.  Students in the club must complete 20 hours of community service. Ten of those hours need to be completed with school-related projects.

 The meeting dates for the Beta Club are:  Septempber 24, October 22, November 19, December 17, January 28, February 25, March 25, April 22 , and May 13.  All meetings will begin at 8:15. Meetings are subject to change, so students should listen to the announcements.

Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl/Book Club      

Meetings will be held  in the Media Center on Wednesdays at 4:15 till 5:00 p.m.

Helen Ruffin books are available for checkout.  All participants should read as many of the books as possible.  Ten questions should be written up, one on an index card, with the answer and the page number on which the answer may be found for each book.

                                       Chess Club

The Chess Club is an informal but enthusiastic group that plays games together on Friday mornings in the Media Center.  Chess boards are available from 8:15 to 9:00 a.m. There is an open invitation for anyone to come, anytime during the year. Passes are available in the Media Center.

  Weekly dates/times will be decided at a time to be decided. Applications with a teacher referral are required. Auditions will be held at 8:15 in the Media Center.

DTV 

Weekly broadcasts will be shown on Mondays at 9:05. Tune into Channel 4.

 

FCA    

  Non-school-sponsored club.  Meets every Thursday in the Chorus Room at 8:15 a.m. for fun and fellowship.

 

                   Math Team

 

                                  Any Dodgen student may come to math team on Monday mornings.  We meet at the student entrance door at 8:00 a.m.  This group works with the MathCounts materials, in order to improve problem solving.  On Fridays only, 7th & 8th grade students are invited to participate in math team.  This group works on higher level math in order to compete in the High School JV math competitions.

 

 

Science Olympiad     
The goal of Science Olympiad is to bring science to life, to show how science works, to emphasize problem solving aspects of science and the understanding of science concepts. Students develop teamwork strategies that make science education more exciting. This year, our students will compete in 23 different events including Anatomy, Battery Buggy, Crime Busters, and Dynamic Planet and Physics Lab. 

Science Olympiad tryouts take place at the beginning of each school year. Forty students are selected to compete in a county, invitational, and regional competition with other GA schools. The six top teams from each regional competition are then invited to compete at the state level. Only the top two teams at the state level will be invited to the National Competition.

Meetings are held every Tuesday after school in the cafeteria.


Student Council    

Meets every 2nd Tuesday of the month at 8:15 in the Theater.

 

Young Author's Club 

The Dodgen Young Authors Club, better known as the Dodgen YAC (pronounced yack), is open to all Dodgen students who enjoy writing and sharing stories and/or poems.  The club is going to be mainly student run, with 7th grader Mercer M. serving as president.

The club will meet the second and fourth Tuesday of each month and the first Wednesday.  We meet in Mr. Wilson's classroom (614) at 8:15 a.m. Snacks are usually provided.
