READY, SET, THRIVE!

The culture at Due West Elementary for the 2009-2010 school year presents a picture of teamwork with an eager staff launching a vision where all skills focus on each student’s individual progress.  We are a team that’s thriving because we care, we are focused and we are enacting change.  We care about our students, parents, and community.  We’re focused on student achievement by presenting the Georgia Performance Standards and in helping each child gain confidence.  We’re changing through effective collaboration, training on 21st century technology, and becoming a strong united team with shared decision making and leadership.

Our vision is, Together We Are Better…T.E.A.M.  It is important that everyone clearly understands their part in we.   The word we includes students, staff, parents, and our community.   The letters in the acronym T.E.A.M. will remind all stakeholders of the steps to grow, change, and improve.  A process for success will result as we practice the actions of Teaching, Engaging, Analyzing, and Mentoring.  The act of teaching ensures knowledge and application.  The act of engaging creates goal setting.  The act of analyzing builds creativity. The act of mentoring builds trust and respect.

Life skills, learning skills and information skills will be integrated into the basic core subjects of reading, language arts, math, science, social studies, and the arts.  Competence will grow as academic and teamwork skills align with a set of life principles.  The Due West Elementary School’s mission is to create a loving environment with “lessons that will help students successfully engage in LIFE both in and out of school.”  Due West is THRIVING!
