Chorus

Director - Catherine White KES Music Teacher

Chorus is an extracurricular activity available to all KES 2nd graders. However, due to a large interest in chorus, auditions are required and only 50 students will be selected to join. Auditions will be held on September 14th, 17th, and 18th, 2018 from 7:15-7:45 in the music room (drop in, no sign up required). Parents must complete the permission form on-line via Mrs. White’s blog prior to the assigned audition date (below) or have students return the paper form (sent home mid-September) to Mrs. White during their audition.

Friday, 9/14: Daugherty, Zimmerman, and N. Smith

Monday, 9/17: Albright, Harris, Sisk, and Williams or Kimble (2nd graders only)

Tuesday, 9/18: Hardwick, Forde, and Dunn

During the audition students will echo simple rhythmic clapping and sing the 1st verse of “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” from memory (we will practice this during music specials, but you can also practice at home with the video recording on Mrs. White’s blog).

Students tardy or absent on their assigned audition date can choose another audition date. Acceptance letters will be sent home Wednesday, September 19th and the first day of rehearsal will be Thursday, October 4th from 2:20-3:30 pm.

 After School Rehearsals

Chorus rehearsals are held each Thursday from 2:20-3:30 pm in the music room, starting on Thursday, October 4, 2018

Rehearsals may be held on a Monday or Wednesday when the following Thursday is an early release day

Rehearsals may be canceled or rescheduled if that Thursday is also a major event (Jump Rope for Heart, Field Trips, etc.)

Chorus Uniform

Chorus students are required to wear a uniform for performances. This includes: navy polo ($15 paid to the school), black pants with solid black belt, and solid black dress shoes. Students will also need a red chorus t-shirt ($10 paid to the school) to wear for outdoor performances with khaki shorts or skirt and tennis shoes. Many of these items have been donated back to the KES chorus program by previous members and are available for free as a “rental” for those families in need.

 Dismissal Protocol

Car riders/walkers must be picked up promptly at 3:30 in the bus port. Students not picked up by 3:45 will go to ASP and parents will be required to pay the fee ($10 registration, $7/day). Regular attending ASP students must be registered at KES only. Some daycares pick up after rehearsals if you coordinate. Check with your daycare provider for more information.

Are rehearsals/performances required?

Yes! Not only are students learning the songs, but they are also learning the importance of fulfilling a commitment. Chorus gives the students something to be proud of; performing gives them a chance to show off all their hard work from rehearsals! 2 unexcused absences from rehearsal or 1 unexcused absence from a performance will result in being dismissed from chorus. To be excused, a written note or e-mail must be received prior to the absence (when possible) explaining the reasoning (dr. appt, illness, out of town, etc.)
