School
Improvement Plan
Each school is required by the
district to study data and survey stakeholders annually to then
determine its school improvement goals for the following school
year. The KMHS School Improvement Team has established two
goals for the 2006-7 school year.
Our first goal is focused on
student achievement: Students will demonstrate higher-level
cognitive skills. As part of the effort to teach students
to think critically and to address a portion of the new SAT,
KMHS is continuing with the writing initiative this school
year. Following training, teachers across the curriculum
were given time with their collaborative groups to develop
writing prompts in each subject area and to develop scoring
rubrics for writing assignments. Each teacher is required
to do a total of four timed writings pertaining to his
subject area in each class during the course of the
semester. Writing prompts are usually similar in nature to
those found on the writing portion of the SAT.
Our
second goal is focused on school performance: To reduce
gaps in student achievement, teachers will develop and
implement various strategies to engage all students in
rigorous and relevant learning. Utilizing staff development
time on Early Release Days and presentations by staff
members during teachers’ planning time, teachers are being
trained to differentiate instruction and to plan activities
that address all learning styles.
Phone Master
Message
The PhoneMaster Message system
is used to keep parents informed about KMHS via telephone
messages. Parents may hear the PhoneMaster Message
repeated by calling 678-594-8446 (ext. 7925).
Georgia High School Graduation Tests
The Georgia
Department of Education has developed a website to provide
people with information about The Georgia High School Graduation
Tests (GHSGT).
In addition to
providing information about the test, the site also contains all
of the sample GHSGT exams and study guides. Students are
encouraged to visit the website by clicking
