The Leadership Academy has been developed by the Cobb County School District to provide opportunities for system personnel to develop, increase, and improve the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for school leaders of the future.

The Leadership Academy is:

  • Based on the Cobb County School District Goals

  • Based on the Georgia School Standards

  • Based on the National Standards for School Leaders

  • Based on research of best practices in leadership development

  • Grounded in Adult Learning Theory

The Leadership Academy Curriculum:

  • Is designed to prepare future principals for the Cobb County School District

  • Is designed to increase skills that impact student achievement

  • Is research-based to develop knowledge, dispositions and performances of the state and national standards for school leaders (ISLLC Standards -- Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium) (Georgia School Standards)

  • Provides opportunities for self-assessment and development of individual leadership skills

Curriculum Sources:

  • Developing the 21st Century Principal Skills Program (NASSP)

  • School Leadership Workshop Series - School Leaders Promoting Student Success (ETS - Pathwise)

  • Leadership Challenge (Kouzes, Posner)

  • Framework for School Leaders - Linking the state and National standards to practice (ETS - Pathwise)

  • The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader (Training Curriculum by John Maxwell)

  • The Daily Disciplines of Leadership (Douglas Reeves)

Leadership Academy I:
GOAL:

   a) Introduction – Linking the ISLLC and Georgia School Standards to effective leadership practices
   b) Introduction of NASSP School Administrator Skills: Developing the 21st Century Principal
   c) Introduction of Cobb’s support systems for school leaders

 

Minimum Eligibility At time of application:

  • Local school department heads, technology integration specialists math facilitators, teachers, ALT’s, counselors, central office supervisors, etc.

  • Valid Educational Leadership certificate or enrolled in a college/university Educational Leadership certification or degree
     program

  • At least five (5) years of certified experience

  • Master’s degree


 

Leadership Academy II:
GOAL:

   a) Research-Based Best Practices for school administration
   b) Linking ISLLC and Georgia School Standards to effective behaviors and practices
   c) Assessment and practice on the NASSP School Administrator Skills:  Developing the 21st Century Principal
   d) Practical application of decision analysis for school leaders
   e) Extended training on the school leader’s role to support standards-based instruction
 

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY AT TIME OF APPLICATION:

  • Current, full-time, local school assistant administrators (or equivalent central office position)

  • Valid Educational Leadership certificate (L-5, L-6, L-7)

 

Leadership Academy III:
GOAL:

   a) Linking ISLLC and Georgia School Standards to effective behaviors and practices

   b) Individual assessment on NASSP School Leader Skills: Developing the 21st Century Principal
   c) Assigned mentor to assist with individual professional development plan
   d) Advanced decision analysis for school leaders
   e) Advanced application of effective leadership behaviors and practices
   f) Advanced training on the leader’s role to ensure standards-based instruction

 

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY AT TIME OF APPLICATION:

  • Three (3) years minimum combined experience as Administrative Assistant or Assistant Principal (or equivalent central office position)

  • Valid Educational Leadership certificate (L-5, L-6, L-7)

  • Recommendation of “Ready to assume increased responsibility now” on most recent administrator evaluation


Application Process:

  • Complete the Cobb County School District Leadership Academy Application online. (www.cobbk12.org/hr)

  • Send résumé to: Leadership Management, Human Resources, via school mail or to 514 Glover Street, Marietta, GA 30060.

  • Give the Recommendation Form to your principal. Principal will complete and return the form directly to Leadership Management.

Summary:

  • Depending on quality, twenty-five to thirty applicants will be selected or each Leadership Academy.

  • Candidates will be notified of their selection or non-selection during the summer.

  • Human Resources reserves the right to place applicant in the most appropriate leadership academy category.
