Leadership development opportunities are designed to support and enhance the success of Cobb County School District's new principals during the first two to three years of service.

Experienced/Retired principals were trained as mentor-coaches for new principals. These principals successfully completed coaching essentials training with Stephen Barkley.

Each new principal is partnered with an experienced/retired principal who will model effective leadership and serve as a mentor-coach.

Each new principal communicates and meets on a regular basis with a mentor-coach.

New principals and mentor-coaches meet throughout the year for professional learning that is facilitated by the Director in Professional Learning.

Monthly collaborative sessions and local school-focused walks are scheduled with the new principal throughout the year to enhance knowledge and skills.  Supported areas of responsibilities are determined on an individual basis and may include the following:

  • SIP process (School Improvement Planning)

  • School culture

  • Professional learning communities

  • Building effective leadership teams

  • Developing effective leadership skills
