Counselors
Removing barriers to help students create paths to success

Our mission as Professional School Counselors of McClure Middle School is to address all students’ academic, career and
personal/social development needs by implementing and evaluating a comprehensive school counseling program that supports
student success.
Academic Counseling
The counselors are directly involved with the teachers, administrators and school psychologist regarding academic
counseling. Counselors also meet with students by referral from parents or teachers regarding academic difficulties.
Please call us or email us at any time if you have concerns.
Classroom Guidance
The use of classroom guidance is an efficient way to distribute information to large groups of students. Classroom
guidance lessons often include information on conflict resolution, stress management, anger management, organization,
study skills, test taking tips, career development, orientation to middle school (6th), and orientation to high school (8th).
Individual Counseling
The counselors are available to students for individual counseling at any time. An appointment is preferred,
however, a counselor is always available in an emergency situation. Should the need arise in a crisis situation the
Cobb County Prevention Intervention Center is notified and an opportunity for a free assessment would be offered to
parent and student.
Counseling Curriculum
Throughout middle school, the counseling department will deliver lessons in the following domains:
- Career
- Academic
- Personal/Social
Group Testing
All seventh grade students will be given the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) and Iowa Test (formally the ITBS)
in the fall. In addition, all 8th graders will be given the Redistep Test. This test will help our students get
comfortable with ACT/SAT style testing. All students will be taking the Georgia Milestones Tests in the spring.
Parent Support Services
Counselors are available to meet with parents by appointment to discuss students' academic or personal concerns.
Please contact us by calling or e-mailing in order to schedule an appointment.
Please check the counselor blog periodically to see upcoming events.
Career Development
Counselors focus on career guidance in the classrooms throughout the year. Career Cruising is an interactive,
developmentally appropriate website for middle schoolers to explore career options, interests, and educational
opportunities. You can log onto the site at www.careercrusing.com. Students are given username and password
information each year.
