Norton Park Administration

Michelle Curry

Dear Norton Park Eagles,

I am so elated to be the new principal of Norton Park Elementary School and, I am committed to making a difference every day in the lives of our children. My vision is to create a student-centered, innovative environment which promotes and expects excellence from all students through respectful and meaningful relationships. As a team, we will take this vision and put it into action by focusing on “Teaching and Learning” daily. I am ready and motivated to lead this vision with the students of Norton Park. I look forward to getting to know you as well as the students in the coming weeks.

My passion is centered on building meaningful relationships with students, teachers, and parents. Over the next couple of weeks, I plan to meet with the faculty and staff, parents, and community members to formally introduce myself. As we enter into a new school year, we will work on building trusting relationships that have one goal in mind….Student Success. We will collaborate on ways to continue Norton Park soaring upward and focusing on using data to increase student achievement.

I am passionate about providing learning experiences inside and outside the school for our students. It is my hope and desire to engage our students with more real world experiences that connect back to the classroom by continuing with Proof of Concept as well as Dual Language Immersion practices. These practices have shown to provide students with a variety of ways to increase learning in the classroom.

I was born in Germany, but raised in South Georgia. I am an official “South Georgia Peach”. I have diligently served Cobb County School District for 17 years as a classroom teacher, area lead teacher, and administrator. I am a graduate of Tuskegee University earning a Bachelor of Science. From Kennesaw State University, I have a Masters of Education and a Specialist of Education from Nova Southeastern University. Lastly, I have earned a Leadership Add-On certificate from the University of Georgia. I have 3 athletic and busy kids. Cameron will be a freshman at Hillgrove High, Caleb a 5th and Camden a 3rd grader at Kemp Elementary.

In closing, I am humbled and honored that Cobb County School District Leadership team choose me to serve as your leader. I look forward to building trusting relationships with each of you.

Sherry Trimble Smith

Assistant Principal

Hello Norton Park Eagles! My name is Sherry Trimble Smith. I am very excited to begin my third year as Assistant Principal at Norton Park and 14th year in the field of education. I have been honored to meet and serve this wonderful school community over the last two years!

I am an Indiana Hoosier turned Georgia Peach that has found a love of the south and living in Cobb County! In 2003, I earned my bachelor’s degree in Early Education with Liberal Studies from Carson Newman University in east Tennessee. I moved to Kennesaw Georgia and began teaching in Cobb County School district at Fair Oaks Elementary for 11 years. My teaching experiences varied Kindergarten through Fifth grade as a grade level teacher, science lab teacher, and Early Intervention Program teacher. I earned my master’s in Educational Leadership from Kennesaw State University in 2008. In the fall of 2014, I began my school leadership journey at Bells Ferry Elementary. I spent one wonderful year there as a School Leadership Intern before I came to “The Park” as your Assistant Principal.

As a school leader, I am passionate about building relationships with staff, students, and families within our school community! I will continue to work with our staff to ensure high levels of learning are happening for all students and that we meet student needs daily. I love working to build traditions and learning opportunities that children will remember for a lifetime! I am eager for the 2017-2018 school year to begin for our Eagles to SOAR to new heights in academic excellence.

“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and learn.” - Benjamin Franklin

Kris Teller

Assistant Principal

The 2017-18 school year will be my second year as an administrator at Norton Park Elementary School. I am excited about being able to work to maintain our current programs, start some new initiatives, and support our staff each step of the way. I began my teaching career in the Washington D.C. area with Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia, which is the 13th largest school system in the United States. I then took a position in Cobb County at Rocky Mount Elementary before moving to Norton Park Elementary.

With so much information available to students through various technology media, our roles as teachers has shifted to facilitating an environment for students in which they can learn through their own self-discovery. As educators, we have to facilitate learning for others and provide a safe and interactive platform for learners to become responsible for their own learning. Self-inquiry, making content ‘real’, and providing a supportive and student-centered learning environment is at the core of my educational approach.

“I am forever learning and changing” –W. Edwards Deming

Greetings! I am so excited to be at Norton Park working with you and your family! I began my teaching career in 1999, and all of those years are in the area of Special Education with 5 years of school based leadership. I believe in the development of teachers which is why I use the summer months to score Teacher portfolios for the Educational Teacher Performance Assessment (EdTPA). I served on the Bias Review Committee for the Georgia Assessment for the Certification of Educators (GACE) as well as the GACE Standard Setting Committee for the Special Education Content Area Test.

I am originally from New York and attended the State University of New York at Albany where I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree. I attended Clark Atlanta University and received my Master degree in Special Education. I received my Educational leadership certification and level six certification from Columbus State University. When I am not at school, I love spending time with my family.

I have a passion for advocating for students, and I am always learning and working to find new and exciting ways to engage all learners. My door is always open to you and your family.
