Senior Project Presentations by Oakwood Students

 

On April 3, 2015 seniors at Oakwood who were near completion of their graduation requirements presented their senior projects in the media center.  Students were required to create a presentation detailing their plans for their future endeavors.  Students were also required to complete a resume, a cover letter, find a mentor, and complete a college application.

Oakwood Students Tour Georgia State University

 

Several students from Oakwood Digital Academy toured Georgia State University on March 4, 2015.  Students were taken on a guided tour and were able to see various buildings throughout the campus and gauge what life is like for a typical student at GSU.  After finishing the tour, students attended an information session hosted by one of the admissions counselors and were able to ask questions regarding the admissions process, admission requirements, and financial aid.

Military Recruiters Speak with Oakwood Students

 

On February 20, 2015, recruiters from various branches of the military spoke with Oakwood students about different opportunities available to them in the armed forces.  Recruiters from the marines, navy, coast guard, and army national guard spoke about topics including the ASVAB test, military pensions, basic training, as well as many other things.

Oakwood Hosts a Red Cross Blood Drive

 

On January 13, 2015, Oakwood hosted a blood drive for the American Red Cross.  Students and staff members from Oakwood Digital Academy, the Cobb Performance Learning Center, as well as the International Welcome Center donated.  A total of 28 pints were collected, exceeding its goal and nearly doubling the amount that was collected during the previous blood drive.  Oakwood is tentatively planning another blood drive for the fall.

Oakwood Students Tour Life University

 

On November 18, 2014 several Oakwood students were invited to tour Life University.  Students were able to tour the campus, speak with representatives from the school, and find out more about what a typical college student would experience while attending school.

Annual College and Career Fair

 

Representatives from a variety of local colleges such as Chattahoochee Technical College, Life University, Kennesaw State University, and many more were available to speak with students at Oakwood's annual College and Career Fair which took place on Friday, October 24, 2014 in Oakwood's media center.  Students received information about the college application process and were encouraged by each representative to apply.  Representatives from the US military were likewise available to speak with students regarding careers in the American armed forces.

IBM and Keep Smyrna Beautiful

Help Beautify Oakwood's Campus

 

Angela Bolton (left), a representative from IBM and Ann Kirk (right), director of Keep Smyrna Beautiful, pose with David Pearce (center), supervisor of Oakwood Digital Academy.  IBM has generously supplied grant money that has been used to beautify Oakwood's campus.  Volunteers from Keep Smyrna Beautiful have assisted in improving the look of our campus for the past several years.
