1. Your research paper must be typed either on a word processor or a typewriter. Choose a standard, easily readable typeface which produces dark, clear type. Type on only one side of the paper and use only white 8 1/2- by 11-inch good quality paper. Leave margins of one inch at top, bottom, and both sides. Indent the first word of a paragraph one-half inch or five spaces from the left margin. Indent set-off quotations one inch or ten spaces from the left margin. Double-space throughout, including outline, heading, title, quotations, and Works Cited page. Do not justify the lines of your paper. Do not put a page number on your outline. It is not page one of the paper.

  2. Type your last name and page number on every page in the top right corner one-half inch from the top. Instead of using a title page, type your name, your teacher's name, course name and number, and date on separate lines of the first page, beginning flush with the top left margin. Center your title on page one. Do not underline it; do not put it in quotation marks; do not put it in all caps.

  3. Number all pages consecutively in the upper right hand corner one-half inch from the top of the page. Type your last name before the page number. (See sample paper.)

  4. Your paper should be free of visible errors. Proofread each page before and after printing.

  5. Follow your teacher's instructions for submitting your final copy.
