Now that you have prepared a preliminary outline and have established specific areas of consideration for your paper, do some intensive reading of those sources which contain good information relative to your working outline. Be selective in taking notes. Do not waste time writing down everything you read. Do not assume that everything you read is truthful or valid just because you see it in print. When you do find material you consider useful, take notes. Record your notes on lined 3x5 cards. You will need to decide which method of note taking is appropriate for the information you have. The two methods you will use are paraphrase and quotation. |
