Five Themes-Directions for Collaborative Learning
1. Groups
meet-each student chooses a theme. (if 5 in your group two students will
need to do the same theme-ex. 2 can do Place-all 4 themes must be done).
2. Research
Theme-. (15-20 min)
*Each
student will go to his/her computer using school web site. Select Projects/Technology-SS
Five Themes.
*Using
the organizer for concept definition map write a clear definition of your
theme. What are the characteristics of your theme? Find 3 real life example
of your theme using Internet site that has CIA World Fact Book, Culture
grams, People and places.
3. JigSaw-
all students who researched the same theme will meet as an expert group.
You will decide as a group the best definition of your theme and 3 examples.
Make sure you write this down.
4. Regroup
with original group. Each student will teach his theme to the group. Give
the characteristics of the theme. (ex. - Location: absolute , relative
location).
5. Each student will create a postcard (on one 8 ½ x 11 sheet) representing his or her own theme. You may use clip art to select picture that represent example for your theme. You may need to resize your clip art to all fit on one page. Postcards will be presented and displayed. 6. Your group will create a form (template) for the Five Themes of Geography. Each expert will create his or her section of the form. The class will select the best form to be used in the World Regions Journal. Include the name of each theme, characteristics need to be included. |
