Dear Durham Students, Parents/Guardians and Community,

Welcome to the 2007-08 school year!  It is so exciting for me to be able to say this as the new principal of Durham. I am both grateful and most fortunate to have the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful school and community.

Durham Middle School has established a reputation for excellence and I am committed to continuing that reputation.

We are very excited to announce that we have been chosen as one of the seven pilot sites and as the demonstration middle school for the Cobb County 21st Century Technology initiative. During this school year, all classrooms at Durham will be fitted with electronic whiteboards, projection screens, electromagnetic digital pads, projectors, speakers, amplifiers, wall-mounted controllers, DVD players, student response systems, wireless microphones, and document cameras to turn them into "21st Century Classrooms." In addition to the installation of the physical equipment, all of our teachers will be trained to implement this new technology in their daily lesson plans and teaching. It is a great time to be both a student and a teacher at Durham Middle School. We look forward to being able to use this technology to increase our already outstanding academic achievements and can’t wait to be able to show it to you.

As you well know, Durham teachers have the reputation for successful instruction in the classroom and in working with our students.   I can’t wait for school to be underway so I can begin to get out and about in the building and get into the classrooms. I am eager to meet all of the students and to be able to learn exactly what it is that makes our school such a wonderful place for all to be.

We are looking forward to an exciting and productive year for both students and faculty.  Thank you for your warm welcome this week at Orientation and in advance for your support. I wish everyone a magnificent 2007-08 school year.  Again, I am thrilled to be a part of the Durham community.
