Winter Break February 19-23, 2018


7th and 8th Grade Disney Trip

The trip is scheduled for February 15-18, 2018 with a music workshop at Disney.   Check the Disney Trip page for more information.  We currently have 80 students signed up for our trip!


Music Technology Class

Our first week of class students set up their Office 365 accounts and their Edmodo accounts.  Parents, if you aren’t familiar with Office 365, please ask your child for more information or visit the CCSD Website.  This is a fantastic resource that is provided to your child by the Cobb County School District.

Students have created a “Celebration Song” using MixCraft software.  In addition, we are completing a Video Game Concept project.  There is no homework for this class.  Students will complete all their work in the computer lab at school.


8th Grade Advanced Band

The 8th Grade Advanced Band continues our focus on music study and fundamentals.  

We are preparing our concert program (Summit March - Bennett, Rippling Watercolors, and Suite in Minor Mode) for the LGPE in March.  Here is the list of 9 playing tests students MUST submit in CHARMS.   


7th Grade On-Level Band

The 7th Grade On-Level Band is continuing their work in Essential Elements Book 1!  The Woodwinds are working with Mrs. Estes for more focused study.  Students need all their supplies and instruments as we work to strengthen thier musical skills.  Students have playing Tests every Friday.  Tests are announced on Monday.


6th Grade Beginning Brass and Percussion

The Brass section is becoming more accurate with their pitches and notes.  The percussion section is moving along as well!  We will continue to build on the skills we learned in the 1st semester.  Students have playing Tests every Friday.  Tests are announced on Monday.

We have wrapped up the Digital Citizenship and will now begin a unit where students will discuss the music that is important to them in their life.  There is no homework for this class.  Students will complete all their work in the computer lab at school.

Information was distributed the first week of school.  The trip is scheduled for February 15-18, 2018 with a music workshop at Disney.  The FINAL trip payment was due on December 2. The final amount varies for each student depending on fundraisers and past payments.  Contact Dr. Nichols for clarification.  Check the Disney Trip page for more information.  We currently have 80 students signed up for our trip!

We are preparing a concert of holiday/seasonal music to perform at our local elementary schools and our Smitha students in the coming weeks.  Also, we will begin reading music to decide on our concert program for the LGPE in March.

Students should have all playing tests up-to-date in CHARMS.

We will be performing for students at Dowell, Hollydale and Birney on Monday, Dec. 11.  Here is the permission slip.

Last week, students worked on creating a Powerpoint presentation on a composer of their choice.  Please check your child’s Edmodo account for more information on our class assignments.

GMEA Solo and Ensemble Evaluation is Saturday, November 4th at Hightower Trail MS.  Students will receive specific information in class this week.  ***This is a required performance for all students in this class.***
