Dear Vaughan Family,

I am honored and delighted to serve in my fifth year as the principal of Vaughan Elementary School! I cannot thank the entire community enough for another amazing year! For those of you that are new to our community, I was a part of the original Vaughan staff when we opened the doors of the school for the first time in 1996. While there have been many changes over the years, the tradition of excellence and warm sense of family have continued. It is my aim as the principal of Vaughan to continue these traditions as we work in partnership to provide the very best education for our students.

This is my twenty-second year serving in the Cobb County School District, and eleventh year as a school administrator. I was an assistant administrator at Ford Elementary for one year and an assistant principal at Timber Ridge Elementary for four years. I also served as the assistant principal at Powers Ferry Elementary for one year. I have eleven years of classroom teaching experience which include teaching second grade at Ford Elementary and Vaughan Elementary and teaching in the Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) at Mt. Bethel Elementary and Cheatham Hill Elementary. I received my Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) and my Specialist degree from Georgia State University. I earned my Ph. D. in school supervision and administration at the University of Southern Mississippi in 2011.

I look forward to partnering with you in your child's education and serving the talented Vaughan staff. Great things are happening at Vaughan and I am proud to be a Vaughan Rocket. We will certainly S.O.A.R together this year!

Sincerely,
Dr. Shannon A. McGill

Dear Vaughan Family,

I am excited for the opportunity to serve Vaughan’s students, teachers, and community members for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year! The vision for the school and the S.O.A.R. motto have inspired me to “Engage in Excellence” with the faculty and staff as we collaboratively provide outstanding learning for our students.

I look forward to continuing my career in the Cobb County School District. After graduating college, I have held positions in several areas of education. I served as substitute teacher for the district, I worked as a paraprofessional at Eastvalley Elementary School, and I taught fifth grade at Brumby Elementary School. I received my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Georgia. Currently, I am completing my Doctorate in Educational Leadership at the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!).

During my time at Brumby Elementary, I facilitated community outreach activities such as Mt. Bethel’s Day of Service, Cumberland Community Church’s Faith in Action, and Comcast Cares Day. It was my honor being the 2014-2015 Teacher of the Year and having the opportunity to serve as a School Leadership Intern at Brumby. I desire to bring my community experiences to Vaughan by building relationships through the continuation of the FBI (Fathers Being Involved), working closely with our Partners in Education, and organizing other outreach activities that will be an integral part of my daily responsibilities.

My wife, Allison, and I both live and work in Cobb County. Allison is currently an Autism Trainer in the school district.

I anticipate a wonderful year at Vaughan supporting these amazing students, parents, and faculty! It is an honor to be a member of the Vaughan team!

Sincerely,

Kevin P. Carpenter
