Delayed Dismissal on August 21st, 2017

Due to the solar eclipse on August 21, 2017, the Cobb County School District will delay dismissal of elementary, middle and high school students by 45 minutes. Elementary buses will leave the schools at 3:05 PM. Parents are welcome to pick-up their child at the typical dismissal time if needed.

The peak time to experience the solar eclipse falls during our regularly scheduled elementary school dismissal time. Since student safety is always our first priority, we will start the day on time and delay dismissal to ensure that neither students nor employees are on the roadways during the time of the eclipse. Subsequently, high schools and middle schools will delay dismissal as well.

Per CCSD guidelines, elementary students in grades 3-5 will have the opportunity to view the eclipse with parent permission. Students in grades K-2, and those without parent permission to view the eclipse, will view the event indoors via live broadcast from Kennesaw Mountain High School.

Click here for Eclipse Parent Information.

For more information regarding the solar eclipse, visit the National Weather Service at http://www.weather.gov/sgf/SolarEclipse and the CCSD website at http://www.cobbk12.org/eclipse/.

Leap ahead this summer with reading!

Relax, play, and have fun this summer. Keep reading, too! By reading 20+ minutes a day, students avoid the "summer academic slide" and maintain or advance academic gains. To support summer reading and learning, The Cobb County School District's Library Media Education Department, in conjunction with
the Cobb County Public Library, Smyrna Public Library, and Marietta City Schools, is partnering again with Scholastic to participate in the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge.  Click here for more information: http://www.cobbsummerreading.com/
