CHECK IT OUT®
February 18 at 2:00 pm
On Wednesday, February 18th at 2:00,
Wheeler’s Healthcare Science and Health
programs are hosting an assembly for
all junior and senior girls.
CHECK IT OUT® is a breast cancer
awareness program for junior and senior
female students in Metro Atlanta high
schools. For over 20 years, Greater
Atlanta Hadassah has partnered with
Northside Hospital to bring the CHECK IT
OUT® program to schools in Fulton,
Dekalb, and Gwinnett counties. Wheeler
will be the first Cobb County high
school to present the program. If
you do not want your daughter to
participate, please contact Sharon Hunt
Funded through a grant from It’s the
Journey, the 2-day walk, this important
program strives to educate young women
about breast cancer – the leading cause
of cancer-related death among females in
the United States – and the importance
of early detection. The program consists
of a 50 minute presentation by Northside
Hospital’s nurse/breast health educator,
a brief talk by a breast cancer
survivor, an age appropriate video that
shows how to perform breast
self-examination (BSE), BSE practice
with breast models, and a period for
questions and answers. Each girl
receives a kit containing a latex
mini-breast, a shower card illustrating
BSE, literature from the American Cancer
Society and Northside Hospital, and a
pencil and index card for questions.
Since its national inception in 1992,
CHECK IT OUT® volunteers have taught BSE
to more than 1,000,000 high school girls
in 35 states.

This year Wheeler
Athletics will sponsor a tailgate party before each home
football game. The Wheeler tailgate party is a social
event / pep rally that will be held in the south end of our bus
port. Tailgating, an American tradition, involves playing loud
music, participating in leisure games, and grilling food.
Tailgate parties usually occur in parking lots at stadiums,
before games. Many people participate even if their
vehicles do not have a tailgate. In schools and communities
throughout the United States, there are athletic departments,
coaches and parents of student athletes who rely on pre-game
tailgating parties to build community and support for their
program and team. Wheeler’s Tailgate was developed to energize
the Wildcat Nation and establish a strong core of support year
every home Varsity Football game at 4:30 PM
Port Bay - adjacent to café, Fieldhouse, and bus pavilion.
