Ronald McDonald Visits Addison to Discuss Everyday Leaders

The theme of “Everyday Leader,” Ronald’s newest program, is based on the words of President John Quincy Adams:  “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”  Through music, magic and puppetry, students are encouraged to look inside themselves to find leadership qualities that they already possess and can exhibit on a daily basis.  Key points:  A leader inspires others to be their best; takes and accepts responsibility; sets a good example; listens; works with others; and takes action to achieve positive goals.

Our students were engaged throughout the program and learned how to incorporate the Leader in Me 7 Habits in life.

Wow! We are so proud of our school-wide attendance kickoff! During the month of October, we began attendance incentives to increase students being at school each day! Research shows that school attendance is a direct correlation to student achievement. In addition,  attendance impacts Addison’s CCRPI (College & Career Ready Performance Index) score and we want our school to receive the highest possible rating! Parents, please encourage your children to come to school each day as long as they are healthy and schedule doctor’s appts. after 11:15AM.

During the month of December, the following classrooms received a piece of playground equipment that can be used at recess time. They received this as a result of having the highest classroom attendance in the grade level for the entire month. Here were the winners for the month of December and their attendance percentage:

Kindergarten: Mrs. Powers class 97.5%

First Grade: Mrs. Shore’s class 98.3%

Second Grade: Mrs. Burdett’s class 97.7%

Third Grade: Ms. Pizza's  class 98.6%

Fourth Grade: Ms. Rose’s class 99.0%

Fifth Grade: Mrs. Rivas’ class 98.3%

RISE: Mr. Villegas’ class 98.4%

We look forward to seeing which classes are the Attendance winners for January! You can view the winning classrooms and other classroom percentages on the ATTENDANCE bulletin board located in the Addison cafeteria!

Congratulations to Mrs. Newell on receiving the 2016 Cobb Foundation Impact Grant for I-pads to provide a flipped classroom experience in the Addison Math Lab.

It’s time for another Addison Winter Break Reading Challenge.

Image result for winter reading challenge

During our Winter Break, we are challenging all of our Addison students to take some time and read while we are out of school. Here is how this works: If your child is in K-1st  grade, he or she needs to read for 10 minutes a day for at least 8 of the 14 days.  All students who are in 2nd-5th grades need to read for 20 minutes a day for 8 of the 14 days. Each time you read for the above number of minutes, you need to color one of the pictures on the form. When you return to school, bring your challenge form colored and signed by your parents and you will win a reading award.

So, come on Addison readers- meet our challenge!

Georgia Parent Survey

Please note that the school climate surveys for the 2016-2017 school year are officially open, October, 2016 and will remain open through Friday, March 3, 2017. It is critical for all schools to participate in each of the surveys.

The Georgia Parent Survey is also modeled after the student survey questions. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphones or tablet.  For parents that do not have access to the Internet, school administrators should consider scheduling dates and times to allow parents to complete the Georgia Parent Survey at school.  All parents should be encouraged to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey because the data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis.  Individual data results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online.  The URL address for the Georgia Parent Survey is posted below.
