As the second largest school system in Georgia, the Cobb County School District is responsible for educating more than 107,000 students in a diverse, constantly changing suburban environment.
The district meets this challenge by focusing on four key areas: improving student achievement, developing leaders, being fiscally responsible and building relationships via enhanced communications among schools, families, businesses and the wider Cobb County community.

Awards & Accomplishments
Georgia Department of Education
• Twenty-eight Cobb schools were named award winners for student achievement and academic improvement. Kemp Elementary was one of seven schools in the state to be honored in both the Highest Achievement and Greatest Gains categories.
• Five Cobb schools were named 2007 Georgia Schools of Excellence, including Davis, Murdock, Rocky Mount, and Shallowford Falls elementary schools and Daniell Middle School. Cobb schools have received 37 Schools of Excellence awards since the program’s inception.
• Thirteen schools were recognized as 2007-2008 Title I Distinguished Schools.
• From 2005 to 2007, Cobb has made Georgia’s greatest gains in percentage of students with disabilities earning diplomas. The District climbed from 39.7 percent for the class of 2005 to 55.6 for the class of 2007, a 16 percent improvement. The overall state graduation rate for students with disabilities in 2006-07 was 32.9 percent.
Adequate Yearly Progress
• Overall, 88 percent of Cobb schools (94 total) made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in 2007. This figure is up from 80 percent in 2006.
• 74 percent of Title I schools made AYP in 2007. This figure is up from 57 percent in 2006.
• Pebblebrook High School, East Cobb Middle School were removed from ‘Needs Improvement’ status.
National Honors
• Walton High School was named a 2007 No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon School for academic achievement. Sixteen Cobb schools have received Blue Ribbon honors.
• The District was included in the list of the Best 100 Communities For Music Education,
ranked by the NAMM Foundation and the American Music Conference (AMC).
