The State of Georgia’s Quality Basic Education formula determines an amount that school districts with large tax bases - such as Cobb County - must leave with the state as Local Fair Share contributions. That money is used to help support school districts, typically rural, that have much smaller tax bases. In 2007, Cobb County’s Local 5 Mill Share was approximately $120 million.
