The Professional School Counselors at Birney Elementary School believe

  • All students have a right to a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • All students have a right to participate in a quality school counseling program that contributes to their academic, career, and personal/social growth regardless of ethnicity or socio-economic status.
  • All students K-5 have a right to access a certified professional school counselor at Birney Elementary School.

The comprehensive school counseling program at Birney Elementary School should

  • Be based on nationally established standards, locally specified goals and developmental student competencies for all students K-5.
  • Use data to assess the needs of our students, drive program development, and determine the effectiveness of the school counseling program.
  • Collaborate with our partners in education and other community stakeholders to improve the success and delivery of the school counseling services.

  • Adhere to the professional school counseling ethics as stipulated by the American School Counselor Association.
