Cobb ITBS Scores Improve,
Top National Averages
Third, fifth and seventh graders again surpassed national averages on the fall administration of the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS). Third graders had an average composite score of 69th percentile, meaning that Cobb third graders scored equal to or better than 69 percent of all other third grade students who participated in the ITBS nationwide. Composite scores for fifth graders ranked in the 67th percentile and seventh graders scored in the 63rd percentile. At each grade level, the performance of students increased by one percentile point over 2009.

Farewell to Three Outgoing
Board of Education Members
The Board of Education and school district salute outgoing board members Holli Cash, Dr. John Abraham, and Dr. John Crooks for their service to the school district and the Cobb community. All three members took office in January 2007.
The school board and community also welcome their successors, who will be sworn into office on Jan. 6, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. at the school district central office: Tim Stultz, Post 2; Kathleen Angelucci, Post 4 and Scott Sweeney, Post 6.
The good news story of SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) continues for Cobb County taxpayers. The following agenda items approved by the Board of Education are SPLOST-related and/or involve the use of SPLOST funds. In November and December 2010, the School Board:
- Approved renewal of in-house program management for SPLOST III for the remaining four years (2011-2014) of scheduled projects.
- Approved revisions to Board of Education Policy BDE dealing with Board-appointed committees, including the Facilities & Technology (F&T) oversight committee.
- Approved a contract for renovations at Due West Elementary School to C.P. Richards Construction Co., Inc. for the amount of $252,000.
