Strand: Competency in Motor Skills and Movement Patterns
Demonstrate competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.
The learner will describe how to perform each skill needed for various sports and demonstrate competency to use the key elements (cues) for each skill.
Strand: Concepts, Principals, Strategies, and Tactics
Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physcial activities.
The learner will compare and contrast the history of selected sports.
The learner will recall the year various sports were invented, the inventor, and city in which it was invented.
The learner will contrast the history of selected sports (inventor, location, date).
The learner will referee 1 designated sport applying the rules for that sport.
The learner will identify and explain all field/court markings.
The learner will use appropriate vocabulary associated with selected sports in context.
The learner will utilize various offensive/defensive strategies relating to court/field movement and shot placement durng game play.
Strand: Regular Participation in Physical Activity
Participates regularly in physical activity.
The learner will accumulate the recommended minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity outside of physical education class (60min daily).
The learner will use all skills associated with various sports while dressing appropriately and actively engaging in all practice and game settings.
The learner will participate regularly in physical activities including warm-up, cool-down, skill development drills, and in game settings.
Strand: Health Enhancing Levels of Physical Fitness
Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
The learner will know and demonstrate safe techniques during flexibility exercises to increase range of motion.
The learner will maintain or improve fitness levels through a static/dynamic warm up and cool down during each class.
The learner will calculate and monitor their target heart rate during training sessions.
The learner will apply the principals of conditioning to skill development activities (specificity, overload, and progression).
The learner will apply the knowledge and skills of health-related fitness to general activities and sports.
The learner will maintain or improve cardiovascular fitness levels by using the results of the FITNESSGRAM assessment.
Strand: Personal and Social Responsibility
Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.
The learner will apply safe and appropriate care of equipment used in selected sports.
The learner will demonstrate elements of fair play, honesty, and ethical behavior during practice and in game play.
The learner will show respect for the diversity, strengths, and weaknesses of other learners.
The learner will support the role and calls of the referee/umpire.
The learner will know and demonstrate proper etiquette (area/equipment clean up)without distractions to others.
Strand: Values Physical Activity
Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.
The learner will understand the role physical activity plays, in reducing the risk factor for disease, by maintaining appropriate health-related fitness components.
The learner will list the life-long benefits of regular physical activity.
The learner will develop positive relationships with other students.
