Positive School Culture Support

The Department of Positive School Culture Support, supervised by Kelly McNabb, assists CCSD schools with assessing and addressing school climate and culture. By conducting on-site school visits, analyzing multiple sources of data, and meeting with building leadership teams and school staff, we can suggest appropriate research-based methods to create effective school-wide, classroom, targeted group, and individual systems to provide a positive learning environment for ALL students. Additionally, two district coaches, Kathleen Kimball and Shantay Evans, work specifically with schools implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), providing coaching support, professional learning, and evaluation of implementation fidelity. Our department provides training and staff development on topics such as evidence-based classroom practices, de-escalation strategies, principles of behavior change, educator resilience, family engagement, and interventions such as Check-in/Check-out, Check and Connect, and Brief Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA). To learn more or to inquire about other types of training for your school, please contact Kelly McNabb at 770-426-3493.

What is PBIS?

PBIS is an evidence-based, data-driven framework designed to create positive learning environments that support improved academic, behavioral, and social outcomes for all students. PBIS is a preventative and proactive framework proven to improve school climate by promoting positive relationships between school personnel, students, families, and other stakeholders. The premise of PBIS is that continual teaching, combined with acknowledgment or feedback for appropriate student behavior, will increase appropriate behavior and promote a climate of greater productivity, and learning.

The Cobb County School District has been implementing PBIS since 2013-2014. The following school PBIS teams have participated in training sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education and are actively implementing the PBIS framework:
