$140 per student for one session.  Scholarships are available based upon need.


Registration is by invitation only. The online application portal will be available Feb. 12th though March 20th, 2018. If a paper application is needed, please see the Gifted Resource Teacher (Target) at your local school. Paper applications are due to the Cobb County School District Central Office (514 Glover St, Marietta) by 3 PM on March 20, 2018.

**Students can attend only one session.


Participation is limited to 140 students per location (per session). If more students register than then number of available spaces, seats will be filled by lottery.  There is no preference given to siblings.  If a student is admitted, the parent/guardian will receive confirmation by email on or before March 31, 2018.


Full payment is required to hold the slot. All payments are due by May 2, 2018. Failure to pay in full by May 2, 2018 will result in the loss of your child’s place in the Summer Enrichment Academy. Payment options include online credit card billing and cash. Directions for each option will be included in the confirmation email.

If your student receives a scholarship, more information will be included in the confirmation email.


Who is eligible to participate in Cobb’s Summer Enrichment Academy?
Current 3rd – 5th grade students (rising 4th-6th graders) who met the requirements on the Complete Composite of their most recent nationally-normed, standardized achievement test (such as the IOWA) are eligible.  Students should be academically motivated and desirous of this enrichment opportunity.

What is the application process for Cobb’s summer enrichment academy?
In 2018 we will accommodate 560 rising 4th-6th grade students; 140 students per location per session. Admittance for 2018 is based on a lottery system.  If your child meets the criteria, they will receive an invitation to apply.

Students will be admitted based on verification of test scores, parent/guardian confirmation, and payment.  Any slots left vacant due to non-payment will be replaced by students on the waiting list.

Is transportation provided to the summer academy locations?
No, transportation is not provided. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to provide transportation to and from the program(s).

Is there a discount for families with multiple children who have been admitted?
No. Multi-student discounts are not available.

Can changes to locations be made after a student is registered?
No, a specific student teacher ratio is maintained and changing locations disturbs the ratio.  

What is the policy regarding cancellation?
No refunds will be provided.

What will a typical day look like?
Doors will open and 8:00 am.  Instruction and activities begin at 8:30 am and end at 3:30 pm.  All students need to be picked up by 4:00 pm. There will be a late fee of $10 for any student picked up after 4pm.

Daily activities will focus on academic extension, creative problem-solving, research, robotics, and collaboration.  There will also be guest speakers to present new and innovative concepts and ideas.  All activities and lessons are directed towards meeting the needs of high ability learners.  The theme for this summer is Break Out/Escape Room. There will also be differentiated learning opportunities to enrich and advance each student in his/her areas of interest.

What should my student bring?
This is a BYOD opportunity. We encourage students to bring their own device (smartphone, iPad, Tablet, laptop, etc.) for research. Students will also need lunch and 2 snacks.

Are lunch and snacks provided?
No. Students should provide their own food. It is recommended that students bring 2 snacks and a lunch each day. (NO peanut based products allowed.)

Who will be providing the instruction for Cobb’s Summer Enrichment Academy?
All involved staff members are experienced gifted resource (Target) teachers from Cobb County School District who are skilled at providing rigor, challenge, and higher order thinking.

What are the expectations for behavior?
The academy will be a fun experience; however, the main focus is educational. We have high behavioral expectations. Inappropriate behavior will be addressed with a written warning and parent contact. If it continues, the student will be removed from the academy with NO REFUND.

Is before/after care available for Cobb’s summer enrichment academies?
Daily instruction and activities will take place from 8:30 am-3:30 pm each day.  Doors will open to accept students at 8:00 am and all students must be picked up by 4:00 pm. There are no additional fees for this service.  There will be a late fee of $10 for any student picked up after 4pm.

Is a nurse on staff at the summer enrichment academy?
No.  There is no medical staff on hand.  If your student is ill, you will be contacted to pick him/her up immediately. Students are responsible for keeping and maintaining any medication they may have.
