Division Results for 2008-2009

The Accountability Division established performance measures to determine effective use of available resources during 2008-09.  These measures included on-time delivery, quality of work products, and impact on system operation and direction.  Below are the highlights for each functional area of the division.

Testing and Assessment

  • Approximately 132,000 benchmark tests were administered to Cobb students (greatest majority were in Reading/English Language Arts and Math)
  • 250,000 standardized testing answer documents were processed and sent for scoring by established deadlines
  • School personnel were trained in administration of benchmark tests
  • District scanned approximately 50,000 EOCT documents to provide more timely results to teachers at the end of the semester
  • New technology application was developed and deployed to provide secure transfer of test results to principals in a timely manner

Research and Evaluation

  • Approximately 175 research applications were reviewed
  • 21st Century classroom evaluation was completed
  • Correlation studies between benchmark/diagnostic tests and standardized measures (CRCT/GHSGT) were conducted
  • Program evaluation surveys were developed and administered for several specific Curriculum and Instruction areas
  • A new data management system was developed in collaboration with Technology Services

Grants

  • District applied for eight major grants during 2008-09, five were awarded with total funding of $10,366,818
  • Partnerships were established with higher education institutions and other local agencies for current and pending grant applications

Student/State Reporting

  • All state reporting deadlines were met on time with significant reduction in errors
  • To further reduce errors, processes were developed to obtain data in a more efficient manner (through the data warehouse) and to communicate potential errors in a more timely manner to schools for resolution
  • Process and subsequent checklist were developed to assist high schools in evaluating student transcripts
  • Major review of high school courses completed collaboratively with Student Reporting team and Curriculum supervisors

Analysis and Planning

  • Administered more than 80,000 surveys (online or paper/pencil)
  • New school strategic planning process was developed collaboratively with school personnel for alignment with the district strategic plan
  • Strategic plan data were compiled for each school and the district
  • Approximately 250 people were trained in the new school strategic plan process

Accountability

  • Choice process under NCLB was completely revamped according to new guidelines and more than 600 students were approved during a four week window
  • More than 75 training sessions on topics related to testing, accountability, data utilization, and student information were conducted
