Worker's Compensation GBGD 1/11/06

RATIONALE/OBJECTIVE:

Workers’ Compensation is a no-fault, state supervised system established under the Workers’ Compensation Act title 4, chapter 9 of the O.C.G.A. to pay medical expenses and lost earnings to employees who are injured on the job. In Georgia employers with three or more employees are required to provide workers’ compensation insurance or by funding approved plans of self-insurance.

RULE:

All employees of the Cobb County School District (District) are covered under Georgia’s Workers’ Compensation Act for injuries arising out of and in the course of employment. The District is self-insured meaning the District sets asides funds annually to pay for medical and indemnity costs associated with its workers’ compensation claims.

District employees are required to be treated by a physician from the employer’s posted Panel of Physicians for on job injuries. Employee medical and wage loss benefits are paid within the statutory limits established by the Georgia legislature.
