Remedial Education Program IDDB 9/1/04


RATIONALE/OBJECTIVE:

To be developed.

RULE:

In compliance with Policy IDDB of the State Board of Education, the Cobb County School District shall provide a remedial education program for eligible students. Students in the following categories shall qualify for the program:

(1) Students in grades two through five and grades nine through twelve who meet any two of the following criteria:

  • A documented SST referral supporting remedial placement
  • Retention
  • Low in-class performance in reading or mathematics. Inability to express ideas verbally or to dictate a meaningful sentence (applies to native speakers of English, not to ESOL students)
  • Eligibility for Chapter I
  • Current standardized test scores at the 25th percentile or lower; failure on the Georgia Basic Skills Tests (reading, writing, mathematics) or the State graduation test.

(2) Students in grades two through five and grades nine through twelve who are receiving services under the special education program as authorized by Code Section ' 20-2-152 and whose Individualized Education Programs (IEP's) specify that, due to their achievement levels in reading or mathematics in grades two through five and grades nine through twelve, or writing in grades nine through twelve, they need to receive services under the remedial education program as well as other students receiving special education services who meet the eligibility requirements specified in Paragraph (1).

The following students shall not be eligible for the remedial education program:

(1) Students who are receiving services under the special instructional assistance program as authorized by Code Section ' 20-2-153; or

(2) Students who are receiving instruction under the special education program that is designed to address their respective reading, mathematics, or writing deficiencies.
