Responsibility for Home/School Communications IHAC 9/1/04

RATIONALE/OBJECTIVE:

The Cobb County School District recognizes that effective communication between the school and the home is essential to the successful operations of educational programs for students. The School District further recognizes that the delivery of information to the home is a responsibility that must be shared by school personnel and students. Therefore, students in grades 6-12 shall be expected to transmit written notes, messages, deficiency reports, report cards and other documents intended for communication between the school and parents. School personnel shall be responsible for making reasonable efforts in the communication processes, including both written and telephone messages and for providing particular attention to situations in which the educational welfare of students may be jeopardized; however, school personnel shall not be held responsible for student problems which develop from the refusal of students in grades 6-12 to transmit messages from the school to the home.

RULE:

The intent of this policy is to encourage school staff to continue their personal contact with parents through conferences and telephone communication in addition to any written notice sent home by students.
