Controversial Issues IKB 9/1/04


RATIONALE/OBJECTIVE:

RULE:

Teachers of the Cobb County School District shall refrain from using classroom instruction to influence students, or through them, their parents, regarding any one political or partisan side of an issue. This policy shall not be interpreted to mean that discussion of political or controversial issues is prohibited within the classroom or that teachers are discouraged by the Board from taking an active part in public issues and in supporting candidates of their choice. However, in classroom instruction objectivity on all issues shall be observed in instructional procedures and balanced points of view on issues shall be presented.
