Advanced Placement (AP®) courses provide high school students a
college-level academic experience.
The
College Board partners with colleges and universities to
develop an appropriately challenging curriculum, to create
college-level assessments, and to train teachers to deliver
instruction that meets college-level standards.
All Cobb County School District high
schools offer AP courses taught by College Board trained
teachers. Certain AP courses are also available online.
The College Board offers 37 AP courses in
English, math, social studies, science, foreign language,
technology and fine arts. The scope and variety of courses meet
every student's interests and academic needs.
Students taking the AP exam are graded on a
scale of 1 to 5. Most of the nation's colleges and universities
award credit or advanced standing to students scoring 3 or
higher on exams. Student should contact specific institutions
for details. All Cobb AP students are expected to take the AP
exam.
Fact: Currently 80% of colleges
consider the rigor of a student's schedule as a primary
admissions factor.
Fact: Competitive universities
like the University of Georgia expect Cobb students to complete
three or four AP courses during high school.
Fact: When comparing students with similar
academic and socioeconomic profiles, the impact of AP course
participation on students' five-year college completion rates is
impressive.
