Gordon Pritz returned to the Cobb County School District in July 2006 as Associate Superintendent, Operational Support after eleven years in administration for Marietta City and Paulding County Schools. Pritz served as principal of Marietta High School from 1997 to 2005 before becoming Assistant Superintendent, Operations and Policy Development for the 2005-2006 school year. Prior to 1997, Pritz served Cobb County Schools for sixteen years as an elementary and high school teacher.

Pritz began his career in 1977 as an elementary teacher of sixth grade at Meadowlawn Elementary in Monticello, Indiana. He came to Cobb County in 1979 and served as a fourth and fifth grade teacher at Argyle and Powers Ferry elementary schools (1979-1983). He then moved to the high school level teaching Science and Social Studies at Wheeler High School (1983-1985) and Social Studies at McEachern High School (1986-1995). In 1995 he moved into administration with the Paulding County School system. While in Paulding, Pritz served as assistant principal and athletic director at East Paulding High School (1995-1997). In 1997, Pritz was chosen to serve as principal at Marietta High School in the Marietta City School system. In his eight years as principal, he helped lead Marietta High School in its development of the first International Baccalaureate (IB) program at a traditional, comprehensive, public school in the state of Georgia. Marietta’s IB students consistently scored at or above the 90% pass rate on IB exams. Finally, under Pritz’s leadership, Marietta High School was recognized by Newsweek Magazine in the top 5% of the best high schools across the nation and was named a Georgia School of Excellence in 2003.

In 1977, Pritz earned a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Taylor University in Indiana, a Master’s degree in Administration and Leadership from Georgia State University in 1987, and a Specialist’s degree in Administration and Supervision from the State University of West Georgia in 1996. He completed his Doctorate in Educational Leadership in May 2008 from Nova Southeastern University. His dissertation study examined the critical nature of the elementary to middle school transition experienced by students. He has over thirty years of experience in teaching and leadership positions.

Over the course of his years teaching, Pritz was also involved in student athletics in many capacities. He began coaching wrestling and football at the beginning of his career in Indiana and during his time as a classroom teacher for sixteen years in the Cobb County schools. He served as an assistant coach for Campbell High School in 1979-1980. From 1981 to 1985, Pritz headed Wheeler High School’s wrestling program and served as assistant football coach. He assumed these same capacities while at McEachern High School from 1986 to 1995. His teams won eight Georgia AAAA wrestling titles during those fifteen years while serving as head coach at two different schools, with the final seven championships in consecutive years, a Georgia AAAA record.

Gordon and his wife, Ginny, reside in Powder Springs, GA and have four grown sons, Billy, Randy, Craig and Nate.
