How do I see myself as a reader?
Successful readers exhibit certain behaviors. This unit will help students develop good reading habits: how to choose books, how to care for books respectively, and how to make reading a valued part of each day. In addition, students will recognize plot, setting, and character within text, and summarize text content.
Making sense of text is the ultimate goal of reading. By making predictions, making connections, asking questions, self-monitoring, problem-solving words, and summarizing, students become more proficient at understanding what they read. These reading strategies will be introduced and reinforced throughout this unit.

Unit Resources include general, global resources that might include bookmarks, books, periodicals, media and software. URLs need to be provided for each resource to identify a source from which it can be obtained. Resources might include those purchased as part of an adoption. More specific resources will be referenced within the teaching procedures.
