Increased Text Complexity & Focus on Informational/ Technical Texts

The CCGPS require students to read increasingly complex texts with increasing independence as they progress toward career and college readiness.

Research makes clear that complexity levels of texts students are presently required to read are significantly below what is required to achieve college and career readiness.

The CCGPS uses a three part model to measure text complexity which includes:

  1. quality of the text
  2. sentence and word length
  3. matching the text to the reader
