Excellence
in education is the keystone of the Cobb County School District. From
our educators and parents to our administrators and other community
members, together we strive to achieve the best for our students.
With more than 102,000
students and 106 school facilities, the Cobb County School District
has an enormous responsibility to its students and to Cobb County.
This annual report details the success of the collaborative efforts
for achievement in the Cobb County School District during the past
year and our plans for the future.
One of the most exciting achievements of 2003 was the community’s
approval of the extension of SPLOST. The second phase of the Special
Purpose Local Option Sales Tax paves the way for nine new schools and
the completion of much-needed renovation and addition projects. SPLOST
II will enable the District to prepare financially for its anticipated
facility needs through 2012.
Our area assistant superintendents continue to provide administrative
leadership to our principals and schools. A key organizational change
established during the 2002-03 school year, the six area assistant
superintendents each oversee at least two high schools, as well as the
elementary and middle schools that feed into those high schools. A
special section in this report details the advantages this
reorganization has provided the District.
Technological advances are improving our efforts to provide
student-specific data for students and their parents. The SchoolMax
Student Information System provides student records online through the
Internet. While the modules associated with this system are not yet
utilized District-wide, we are continuing to work toward this goal
while working out the kinks in the system along the way. We anticipate
a streamlined online system in the near future.
Other technological advances, including the use of hand-held testing
tools and updated computer tools for teachers and students, are
important stepping-stones to the District’s goal of excellence in
education. Read more about these advances in this report.
Well-known for its students’ academic success, the District continues
to strive for a well-rounded Curriculum & Instruction program, as well
as a solid testing system. The quality of our academic program
continues to attract newcomers to Cobb County, as well as experienced
and accomplished teachers and administrators.
Excellence in education includes extra-curricular achievements as
well. Our extra-curricular activities support the interests of our
students. From musical or dramatical ambitions to sports, the District
features award-winning teams, bands, groups and clubs. We can be proud
of these extra-curricular achievements as they showcase the incredible
talents of our student body.
The Cobb County School District is an exciting place to be, where
students, parents, teachers, staff and community members work together
to achieve excellence in education. The pursuit of excellence is a
journey, not a destination, and we are dedicated to providing the best
education possible for all students. We thank you for your continued
commitment to this goal. Together, we can achieve excellence.
