• In Winter 2004, Harmony-Leland Elementary hosted a delegation from Hong Kong, China, who studied the Bernstein Model, an arts-centered approach to education being used at the school and abroad. In April 2005, Harmony-Leland will send a delegation to Hong Kong to reciprocate the visit and assist with the Learning Through The Arts model.

• Sky View will be presenting at the Nation Conference on America's Choice Schools in March 2005. Sky View has been selected to present because of the outstanding academic gains made through implementing the America's Choice model.

• Clay Elementary was selected as the Outstanding Title 1 School for Cobb County. They have attained AYP four consecutive years and were recognized by the Department of Education as on of the outstanding elementary schools in Georgia.

• Seven seniors at Pebblebrook High School were offered scholarships to the Cincinnati Conservatory,considered the finest preparatory school for performing arts in the Midwest. Pebblebrook's Performing Arts magnet program continues to produce the most Governor's Honors performers of any high school in the state of Georgia.

• South Cobb High School's Lady Eagles slow pitch softball team won the first state athletic title in the school's history in Fall 2004.

• Campbell High School was included in the top 4% of all high schools in the United States by Newsweek Magazine and has been recognized as having one of the largest International Baccalaureate programs in the country.

 • Argyle Elementary School was recognized as making the highest academic gain in the state of Georgia.

• Marti Marletti, Pre-K teacher at Brown Elementary School, was selected as the Cobb County Teacher of the Year.

• Donna Dukes, Health and Physical Education teacher at Campbell High School has been selected as the Georgia PE Teacher of the Year.

• Griffin Middle School had first, second, and third place winners in the Smyrna Optimist Club Essay Contest.

• Completing first year of three year implementation of K-12 curriculum mapping, which focuses on horizontal and vertical alignment of curriculum delivery, emphasizes instructional best practices, and teaches collaboration.

 Osborne High School Cluster:Osborne High School, Smitha Middle School, Birney ES, Hollydale ES, Milford ES, Russell ES

Learning focused initiative first year which emphasizes best instructional practices and academic expectations for students.

 Both initiatives provide our area teachers more tools with which to both challenge and engage our students.

Gender Educational Initiative:
Campbell Middle School successfully completed its first year in initiating gender based classes in selected subjects.  Initial findings have shown positive academic results.

• Atlanta magazine named Wheeler High School as one of its Top 40 Public and Private High Schools in Georgia and one of nine top high schools in math and science.

• Walton High School was named a 2005 Georgia School of Excellence in Student Achievement, for being in the top performing schools in reading/language arts and math.

• Hightower Trail Middle School's Orchestra was invited to perform at the prestigious MidWest Clinic in Chicago, IL in December, 2004. The convention is the most prestigious honor for a middle school musical ensemble.

• The Dickerson Middle School chorus performed the national anthem for the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando, Florida.

• Shallowford Falls Elementary participated in a cultural exchange program with teachers in Colegiio Maya, the American School in Guatemala City, as part of being a National TALENTS Unlimited Demonstration Site.

• Students at Mt. Bethel Elementary joined Milford Elementary in creating Valentine cards for American soldiers serving in Iraq.

• At Keheley Elementary, 3rd & 5th grade ITBS scores equaled or surpassed national scores.

• Daniell Middle School has integrated 'Writing Across the Curriculum' into all subject areas, emphasizing the power of writing in all aspects of learning.

• Palmer Middle School is helping meet reading goals with the Palmer Book Reviews, where students share what they have read with other students.  When they have finished a book, students can complete a Book Recommendation to be put on display for others to read.  To date, 6th graders have read 2,418 books, 7th graders have read 4,327 books and 8th graders have read 2,644 books.

• Kell student honor rolls include over 800 names.  This represented approximately 44% of the student body achieving at least a 3.0 GPA or above.  Over 190 students earned at least a 4.0 GPA the first semester of the 2004-05 year and are listed on the Princpal’s Honor Roll.

• Members of the Lassiter Choral Department will be traveling to Vienna and Salzburg, Austria March 31-April 6 on a Performance Tour.

• The Kennesaw Mountain High School Band attended the Bands of America Grand National Championships Nov. 4-6, 2004 in Indianapolis, Indiana at the RCA Dome.  They finished second overall and were again awarded highest achievement in the General Effect category.

• The Advanced Math,  Science and Tech Academy at Kennesaw Mountain High School was ranked 5th in 2005 College Preparatory Public Day and Boarding High School Ranking based on the 2004 SAT mean score.

• 2004-05 marks the third year of curriculum mapping focus for Area 4.

• Two new schools are set to open in 2005-06, McCall Primary and Barber Middle School, both in Acworth, serving the northwest part of Cobb.

• North Cobb High School in Kennesaw is preparing to host Cobb's newest magnet program, focused on International Studies. Students will learn about politics, diplomacy and world leadership in this unique program.

• Tapp Middle School was the first Cobb County Middle School Band to perform at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Conference this last December

• Kemp Elementary is the only school officially adopted by Cobb County Master Gardeners and has the only Junior Master Gardeners Club in the state

• Vaughan Elementary is the Professional Development School for Kennesaw State University

• Dowell Elementary has been awarded the prestigious Fulbright Memorial Fund grant for participate in the Master Teacher Program (MTP).  The MTP brings schools in the United States and Japan together in a collaborative exchange and education process.  Dowell has a partnership with their sister school in Fukuoka, Japan. 

• Harrison High school was featured in Atlanta Magazine’s 40 Featured High Schools.

• Cooper Middle celebrated multi-cultural night in February. They had a program with performances from groups representing various cultures.  They then had a dinner with families donating special dishes representing their cultures.
