BRUMBY Primary and Intermediate ELEMENTARY
• Brumby Intermediate was selected from all schools using Fast ForWord to present our data to the Brain Based Summit in Nashville, TN. We will also present at RESA in January.
• Brumby was one of 3 Cobb County School selected to present data at the GACIS conference
• Brumby was presented the Urban Grant from NEA (National Educational Association)
• Brumby was awarded $4000 from Best Buy for our work with Katrina families
• Brumby proudly presents our morning program in 3 languages

DODGEN POND:
Students participate in year-round, problem-based outdoor research projects with activities involving our pond. The pond serves primarily as an enrichment and extension for our ALP Earth Science classes. Over the course of the school year, students analyze, and draw conclusions from, data collected at the pond. Dodgen Pond is a certified, registered Adopt-A-Stream collection site. Using Adopt-A-Stream shallow-water test kits, students transmit findings to state databases. Cobb County Adopt-A-Stream has recently awarded a grant in the amount of $500 to Dodgen to paint a mural within the school. The subject of the mural will be related to our pond.

• East Cobb student places 11th at Geography Bee State competition
• Science Olympiad Team places 5th at regional competition

EAST SIDE ELEMENTARY
• Recognized this school year with the “Gold Award” from the Georgia Department of Education for Adequate Yearly Progress made on the 2004-05 Georgia CRCT

- Judith Morris-Reichenbach was selected State Middle School Counselor of the Year
- Hightower Trail Math Counts Team earned 1st Place in the Cobb County tournament and will proceed on to the region tournament
- Hightower Trail Builders Club was recognized for outstanding participation in the 11 Alive Can-a-thon
- Husky News Network has regularly shown broadcasts on Cobb 24
- Hightower Trail is hosting the Drug and Alcohol Awareness Conference in April, 2006
MOUNT BETHEL ELEMENTARY
- “Through the Looking Glass” musical performance by our third, fourth and fifth grade students in spring 2005
- “Romeo and Juliet” Shakespeare performance by our fourth and fifth grade students in fall 2004
- In school residencies with Alliance Theatre including Georgia Wolf Trap for Kindergarten, Puppetry Residency for first and second grade, Storyline for third and fourth grade, and Writing for Performance for fifth grade.
- Chess Club members received numerous awards throughout the year from various tournaments
- Mt. Bethel Future Problem Solvers Team participated in the state bowl in Athens, GA
- Odyssey of the Mind team performed at local and state competitions
- Students had the opportunity to participate in many clubs including: Math Olympiad, Science Olympiad, Spanish Club, Student Council, Big Help, Unicycling Club, Gymnastics Club, Juggling Club, Baton Twirling Club, and Honor Chorus.
- Three students selected as winners at the local level and one state winner for the Eastern Cobb County Council Reflections contest. The theme was “A Different Kind of Hero”.
- A first grade student was a second place winner in a Reading Rainbow Young Authors and Illustrators contest.
- Principal Robin Lattizori was named a 2005 Georgia PTA Outstanding Principal of the Year
- Nineteen teachers received innovative teaching grants from the Mt. Bethel Foundation
- Addition of Cousins Properties/Avenue at East Cobb as a Partner in Education
- PTA won first place recognition in the state for the areas of Arts in Education, Legislation Advocacy, and Membership
- PTA had 56 active subcommittees to provide additional support in many areas including performing arts, Music Parents, Art Parents, office support and media center support.
- Mt. Bethel named a Platinum Award Winning School by the Governor and the Georgia Department of Education. 99% of students in first through fifth grades met or exceeded expectations in the area of reading on the Georgia Criterion Reference Test; 98% of students in first through fifth grades met or exceeded expectations in the area of math on the Georgia Criterion Reference Test
MURDOCK ELEMENTARY
• Murdock is proud of the governor's designation of "Platinum Status" based on the high level of academic achievement acquired in 2004-2005. There are many factors that contribute to the academic success of Murdock students. Our teachers have been trained in 6 Traits Writing by national trainer Debbie Rutherford. We have also participated in in-depth Data Teams training by national presenter Nan Woodson.
A key factor in all of our successes is our parent involvement. This year was the inaugural year of the Murdock Foundation (MESF) which raised approximately $50,000. to support technology, curriculum needs and the introduction of Spanish in grades K and 1. Murdock also boasts a strong PTA with 100% membership. PTA supports our school through classroom initiatives, volunteers, after school clubs(scouts, chess, art, chorus) and evening activities.
POPE HIGH
• Increased the number of AP courses, AP enrollment, AP tests completed, and AP Scholars
• Built our 7th Habitat for Humanity House
• Established 27 Collaborative Data Teams in support of Data-driven decision-making to improve instruction and increase student achievement
• Received a 2005 Silver Award from the State of Georgia Governor's Office of Student Achievement for Highest Percentage of students Meeting and Exceeding Standards
• Pope students selected for All State in Music: Chorus- 21students, Band- 12 students, Orchestra- 7 students
• Marching Band Regional finalist in two Bands of America Competitions: Bowling Green, KY and Atlanta, GA
• The Pope Band marched in the televised 2004 Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Parade
• Three Pope students selected for Governor's Honors in Fine Arts
• 46 Pope Band students selected for GMEA District 12 Honor Band
• Presented the eighth annual Fine Arts Musical Showcase at the Rialto Performing Arts Theater at Georgia State University
• Pope Renaissance Program awarded honor cards to 814 students in 2004-2005, based on 3.5 GPA or higher, less than 6 absences plus tardies, and no discipline referrals. We held our first Renaissance Festival which was attended by our honor card holders.
• Livia Zarnescu and Tomas Leon were 2 of 34 members of Georgia's ARML (American Regions Mathematics League) team.
• The Pope Mock Trial team won the region championship and placed in the top 8 out of 120 teams in the State Mock Trial competition.
• Odyssey of the Mind had its best finish ever at the June 2005 World Finals--sixth place! Jae Bingham, community coach for Pope was inducted into the Odyssey of the Mind Coaches Hall of Fame.
• Pope PTSA Communications First Place and Character Education; 2nd in Community Outreach,Membership, and Parental/family Involvement; and 3rd in Legislative activities.
• These were the state PTA awards presented at the convention last May. For our District awards, we took first in seven categories! Our district includes PTAs from Cobb, Douglas, and Paulding counties. We also have been recognized as a National PTA School of Excellence for Parental Involvement for 2004-2006.
POWERS FERRY ELEMENTARY
• At least 80% of students at all grade levels passed the reading portion of the CRCT
• Powers Ferry made AYP for the third year in a row
• Powers Ferry has a strong relationship with Area 3 sister schools to provide assistance for students and families in need
• Data Teams were implemented across all grade levels
• Powers Ferry saw a dramatic decrease in the number of student absences and tardies through the data team process
SEDALIA PARK ELEMENTARY
• On Sept.11 the community was invited to a Patriotic Picnic. Cobb fire fighters and policeman were recognized and the Wheeler ROTC did a very powerful patriotic flag presentation.
• In January 3rd and 5th grade parents and students were invited for a pizza dinner to learn about the CRCT and how parents could use the internet resources to help prepare their children.
• In May, parents of students in our Direct Instruction reading program were invited to a special celebration. Students enjoyed donuts with their parents. The parents were thanked for their support and each child was able to select 5 books to take home for summer reading.
SHALLOWFORD FALLS ELEMENTARY
• International Teacher Exchange program with Colegio Maya, Guatemala City, February, 2005.
• Dr. Griffeth, Diane Whitney, and Susan Forbes presented at the National Blue Ribbon School Conference in Biolixi, MS.
• The Shallowford Falls’ Science Olympiad Team placed 3rd in the state competition.
• 5th grade Veteran’s Day Program was held on November 9th, to honor all Veterans.
• Shallowford Falls added five Partners in Education (KnowledgePoints, Washington Mutual Trust, North Atlanta Realty Group, My Gym, and Chick-fil-A) during the 2004-2005 School Year.
• Won the Most Innovative Program Award from Keep Cobb Beautiful for our Recycling Program.
• Caring Kids Club initiatives included MUST Ministries, Ronald McDonald House, UNICEF, and support for our local sister school.
• Our Foxtrotters Dance Team performed at the East Cobber Parade, Mistletoe Market, Fall Festival, and the Holiday Sing.
• PTA received the 14th District Outstanding Program Award for Environmental Education, and 3rd Place State PTA Award for Outstanding Environmental Education Program.
• Professional Development initiatives included TALENTS Unlimited, 6+1 Writing Traits, Data Assessment Training, and Literacy Strategies.
• The Shallowford Falls’ Drama Club cast of 140+ students wowed their audiences with their truly outstanding performances of The Wizard of Oz during the last week of February, 2005.
• Our Tardy Buster/Golden Clock Attendance Program helped lower our percentage of students absent 15 or more days to 1.3%.
• Shallowford Falls began the Bully Prevention Program, Respect and Protect, beginning February, 2005.
• Awarded $300 in the Earth Day 2004 contest
• Six 5th grade students were published in the Young American Poetry Digest
• One student was published in the Atlanta Journal New for Kids section
• Three students were published in the Anthology of Short Stories and three students were published in the Anthology of Fifth Grade Poetry.
• A third grade student won 2nd prize in the Kennesaw Essay Writing Process.
SOPE CREEK ELEMENTARY
• Won the Platinum Award for Georgia's Accountability System based on CRCT (98% of our students met or exceeded standards with at least 35% exceeding standards).
• New Robotics Team took 9 Awards at the Regional Competition in December at Wheeler High School (competing with elementary and middle schools).
• Continue working on our Math initiative and progress with the Chicago Everyday Math Program, raising the bar for all students.
• Newly Renovated Media Center is now up and running. The space is more versatile and functional for all students.
• 17 Sope Creek Teachers completed higher Education Degrees (14 Specialist's and 3 Master's Degree's) in the Summer 2005.
TIMBER RIDGE ELEMENTARY
• Establishment of the Timber Ridge Elementary School Foundation. The Foundation has already been able to provide Timber Ridge with much-needed technology equipment and increased community support and involvement
• Timber Ridge News Network TRNN is a television news and announcement show operated by 5th graders at Timber Ridge
• Implementation of Grade Level Data Teams to analyze student writing and help students improve writing across content areas
• School Improvement Plan goal of increased student achievement in the area of reading was met
• Timber Ridge PTA won 15 awards at the State PTA convention
• Timber Ridge and PTA sponsored our first International Festival in April

WALTON HIGH
• Walton High School received the Governor's Gold Award for the high percentage of students exceeding state standards based on the 2005 spring High School Graduation Tests.
• Walton administered 1523 Advanced Placement Tests last spring. Last year, Walton had 21 National Merit Semifinalists; this year we have 19.
• Walton placed second in the state for the best sports program (for both boys and girls) and first in the state for the best girls' sports program.
• The senior class posted the highest SAT score in the history of Cobb County schools with an average score of 1157.
